Once Kit had learned that the tea was going to take place at a house instead of a public place, he'd set about providing Wesley with an appropriate form of backup - a little tie clip.

"Just wear this," Kit said. "I'll be able to hear what's going on. If you're in trouble, just tap it and... well, let's just say it'll help you make your escape."

He grinned. "I'll be parked down the street. Go get 'em, tiger. Kick 'em in the scones a few times for me."

"If this tie blows me up, I'm going to haunt you," Wesley told him, gently adjusting the tie. Wesley didn't even need to mention what Laili would do to him. "Wish me luck."

Wesley got away from Kit and made his way to the house. He knocked on the door.

A tall guy opened the door. He eyed Wesley critically, and was about to say something snotty when he remembered that he was supposed to be nice.

"Your father is waiting for you in the sitting room." The man was snotty, and had a french accent. He left the door opened, and headed off to another room, to work on a computer.

"Thank you," Wesley said, having to grit his teeth a little to not say something not so nice instead. He made his way toward the sitting room, closing the door behind him.

"Have you finished dallying with that... organization?" asked Wesley's father. He gestured for his son to sit down. "They're all laughing at your ineffectiveness, you are aware of that, correct?"

Not even a bloody hello, Wesley thought to himself as he sat down. "I've still got a potential to tend to, so no, I'm not done yet." He decided to ignore the second comment for the moment, knowing how wrong he actually was. Oh yes, this was not the Wesley who had left England over a year ago, not in the least.

"We have a potential for you." The older man said, pouring himself a cup of tea. "She is well trained, and we will send for her once you've come to your senses. You will not have to move for retraining. We are setting up a base here."

"Why are you setting up a base here? I thought that you already had a few people here." Weren't they in the man's abandoned house? "I'm sure that your potential is well trained. So is mine. I've seen to it." He kind of had to force himself not to use Gwen's name, but he had never even heard Watchers use their potential's name, and he was already trying to not be too suspicious.

"Yes, well those few people were terribly ineffective, as many Americans are. The Watcher's Council does not work with other organizations, and the offending parties are being dealt with. Now, what is this news of a wife?"

His father was right about one thing: the Watcher's Council did not work well with others. As a matter of fact, it usually failed miserably on the off chance that it tried. "Yes, I did get married. I wasn't sure if you really cared, considering how well she was treated when I brought her by for the winter holidays."

"She's not what I would have chosen for you." he said "But I'm relieved that you did marry. When you are ready to return, I will be certain that the council does not punish you for your stupidity. You, and your wife will be housed in an appropriate home, and your potential will arrive, ready for you to continue training. I know that we don't know who the new slayer will be once the current one dies, but we are confident that it will be one of our potentials."

"What makes you so sure that the next Slayer would come to you?" Wesley only hoped that they were just depending on luck with this, and didn't have some other way of making it happen. "And I already have a potential. She's a good one, too. Why replace her?"

"We have someone on staff who knows a magical way to tell such things." he said "We're getting the next slayer. It's just a short waiting game for us."

"If you get her, are you going to bring her hear, or send her someplace else?" Not that he really believed that they could do such a thing, well, he he was about ninety percent sure that they couldn't do such a thing. He didn't know everything about magic.

"Here, to take care of the pesky Hellmouth problem that your organization is sitting on. Afterwards, we'll leave this horrid excuse of a country."

"Do you think that you could take care of it so quickly?" It sounded like he thought that it was a matter of closing a door than what it really was.
