Rock Out!!

Apr 17, 2008 23:34

Who: Starts off with Mere and Pat with a little of Benjamin, but then open to everyone
When: Friday Night
Where: The Bronze

Mere was standing backstage at the Bronze, getting ready to go onstage. She was standing against a wall, turning her guitar. Lexi was off in the bathroom, 'getting ready,' and Skylar was talking with Gwen at the moment, which left Mere off on her own. She was starting to prefer her own company to others lately, since what people mostly asked her was 'how was she doing?' What she wanted to do was scream that the guy that she thought was the love of her life turned out to be just another ass, but instead she'd just smile and say she was fine. Still, there was a silver lining to all of this: she was writing better music than she had been in a long time. Happy people did not write good music, especially metal. She was working on a new song as well, but it didn't fit in well with the Suicide Messiah musical style. Maybe she'd debut it at a Open Mic Night soon.

While the rest of Daylight Dies was relaxing, signing a few advance CDs, and general schmoozing, Pat was basically looking for ONE person: Meredith. Jack had told him about Ash, and after drunkenly deciding that they'd both beat him with baseball bats, they sobered up and decided that if anyone was going to be welcomed in Mere's world right now, it was Pat. So, he walked over to her, ready for his show, wearing black jeans, black boots, a black sleeveless t-shirt, and some black eyeliner (Jack's idea, and Iris seemed to like it as well), and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Ready for your close-up, kiddo?"

Mere looked up from her guitar at Pat and gave him a small smile. "I'm glad that it's here. I've been looking forward to this." That was actually true. Music was really the only thing she had at the moment. "I can't wait to get on stage and actually perform, all of us together."

"Hey... you girls are gonna do great, I know it. And in fact... I have an idea for a song for you girls to do, if you can squeeze one more into your set." He grinned, giving her shoulder a little squeeze.

"Sure, what do you have in mind?" They could always toss a cover if the song that Pat had in mind was better. "Something that I've heard of, I hope."

"Well, if not, it's no big." He looked around, over to where Gwen and Skylar were busy making googly-eyes at each other. "Me and Gwen havent really talked much since Patience... left." It was obvious the subject still moderately bothered him. "And I thought... well, I wanna see her happy, and I know her favorite song. I thought maybe if Skylar sang it to her, it would really make her day."

"Sure, I'll play the song for her." Mere was glad that at least *one* of her band mates was in a stable and happy place in her life. May as well celebrate that. "I know Skylar will do it and...well, Lexi will probably play it. I'm sure we can convince her to do it, anyway." If nothing else, Mere would hide her stash until she agreed.

"It's a song by Guns N Roses called 'November Rain'. She used to always talk about how beautiful it was." He smiled, obviously missing Gwen's friendship. "And... so you know, your dad and me... we decided not to rip Ash's lungs out through his nose. But if you ever change your mind, and want us to? Consider it done."

Mere nodded. She knew 'November Rain' well enough to play it on stage. "We'll talk Lexi into it, don't worry. We'll bump something for it if nothing else. Consider it done." She laughed. "I don't know; I might have to let you guys rip his lungs through his nose, or pound him with baseball bats or whatever you were threatening the other night. Only if I get to help, though. Either way, I'll keep the offer in mind."

"Hey, Mere." He sighed, deciding now was as good a time to face his own ghosts as any. "I've been where you are. I know you've probably had about thirty people telling you 'it'll be alright', or about ten other things meant to make you feel better. But I respect you enough to tell you the thing you need to hear most: the truth." He smiled sadly at her, cupping her chin. "It's gonna hurt. It's gonna feel like someone tore your heart out, stomped on it, and then laughed to all their friends about it. And despite what everyone tells you, it'll never fully heal. True love... when it turns on you, it never fully heals. But you WILL get past it. And trust me, like I did... you'll find that one person who loves you enough to make all that hurt easier to manage."

"At least you're willing to be honest with me," Mere said, smiling softly. "I really appreciate it, Pat. I do." She looked toward the stage. "Besides, I'll get some good music out of this. At least I've got that coming. I've already written some stuff, but it doesn't quite fit the band."

"I'm proud of you, Meredith. I just... want you to know that." Pat smiled, and looked behind him, to see Benjamin Bale walking towards them. "Here comes Ben... I guess it's time for you gals to meet your public."

"Thanks," she said. Mere looked over at Ben. "Good, let's get the party started, then, shall we?"

Ben stood there silently, hands together behind his back, until Pat walked away, leaving the two there alone. "Looks like you ladies are set to go..." He grinned, looking her over. "And you all look.... remarkably good... so, ready to do this?"

"I'm ready as I'll ever be," Mere said, grinning. "Now we've just got to pry Skylar and Gwen apart and then pull Lexi out of the bathroom, and then we're set!"

Ben gave a worried glance to the bathroom at that comment, having heard about Lexi's... reputation. "I'm not going to make accusations, but just let me remind you that no drug use at ALL will be tolerated here, m'kay? Just... wanted to put that out there. Now... I'm gonna go out there and introduce you. So get your friend, and be ready in three minutes."

"I gotcha there, Ben." Lexi needed to ease up off the nose candy, anyway. "I'll round everyone up and we'll be ready to go."

After a few moments, Ben was on stage at the Bronze, looking out at the mix of fans, execs, and regulars that littered his club. He took the mic, that mischievous smile of his looking right at home at a mini-metalfest.

"Good evening, everyone... thanks for coming to the Daylight Dies CD Release Party... after the show, the band will be around to talk, to sign some advance copies of their CD, and more than likely to get hammered. But before THEY take the stage, I'd like to introduce to you, the opening act: a new, raw group from right here in Sunnydale... please give a warm welcome to... Suicide Messiah!"

Skylar made her way to the microphone as Lexi, Mere, and the bassist and drummer settled in. "Hey Sunnydale, you ready to rock?" She screamed. Cheers came from the audience. "Alright, you asked for it!" She screamed into the microphone as the band launched into "Witch Hunt."

'Witch Hunt' is originally by Kittie, but, in our universe, it's a Suicide Messiah original, m'kay? *winks*
A reign of terror on us
The persecution begins
Hold tight the circle
Working woe at ever chance
This is the end of innocence
Just one against the crowd
One torch to light the way there
One torch to burn it down
Through fire and trial
Confess your sins
The lady burns
And no one wins T
he lady is for burning now
Hold her down
Against her will, against her word
Hold her down
And hope no more
Hold her down
Bring back the heads of sinners
Such witches don't wear crowns
A spectre hides among us
Converge and watch them drown
Through fire and trial
Confess your sins
The lady burns
And no one wins

Open to all!
