Bronzing It

Who: Warren, Jonathan, Nica, Willow, Xander, Buffy, Katie, Tina, Alex, Kya
What: Hanging at the Bronze on a Sunday night

Warren was at the Bronze, minding his business -- and the assets of others.

Nica was at the Bronze, as well, working her way through a basket of wings.

Jonathan was hanging out with Warren. "So far so good with the whole extra-school thing, right?" he said. He wasn't sure they were supposed to mention the OSI Academy by name in a public place.

Willow entered the Bronze, recognizing a few faces she knew, and gave a small smile to her friends. She settled at a table with a pile of homework. Willow still hadn't grasped the concept of doing homework at home.

Alex was sitting quietly at a table by the stage, watching the band play with an intent look on his face. His fingers tapped out the rhythm of the song on the tabletop.

"Yeah, so far," Warren nodded. "Still don't trust it, but what can you do?"

Buffy entered, and made a beeline so that she could sit with Willow. "Hey Will."

Jonathan waved to Willow. They didn't talk all that often, but she was in a lot of their classes - including the OSI ones- so he figured that she was a sorta-friend. "Hey Willow."

Katie was hanging out with Nica, and picking at a chicken wing. "I really hope it's been a bad year for roaches."

Tina headed in, and looked around for someone that she knew. She recognized a few people, but wasn't sure if they would be weirded out by her.

Warren looked up and grinned. Girls tended to have that effect on him.

"I think the extra school thing is pretty neat," Nica said.

"Hey Jonathan." Willow said cheerily. She was beyond happy about school starting up, and it was kinda infectious. "Ooooo, hey Buffy!" She said, pleased to see her friend.

"Ok, so... what's with the homework?" asked Buffy

"Yeah, I've been learning a lot from it," Jonathan said. "Some of the teachers are really weird though. And did you even know Mr. Bothwell does magic? I can't believe he's teaching the magic class. I always thought he was just kinda a bum..."

Tina took a seat, and pretended like she belonged there.

"I did not know that," Warren mused.

"Well, just getting a head start, I've got all these extra classes this year, and its super exciting all this new stuff I'm learning, and... I should probably stop talking about homework now as if it's something cool." Willow said, realizing she was letting her inner nerd show.

Nica grinned. "It's fun stuff. And useful."

"I hate getting extra classes." Buffy frowned "It's so not fair. It cuts into hanging out and movie time."

"But see, I'm hanging out, and doing homework! I can multitask with the best of them." Willow said, with a satisfied smile on her face.

"Yeah, but you'll be studying and I won't be able to set you up with a hot guy." said Buffy

"Oh no no," Willow said, her face flushing slightly. "No hot guys for me. I'm errr... too busy, with the studying." It was a blatant excuse in the face of Willow's shyness.

Nica waved at Tina. "Hey," she said.

"What about strictly average guys?" Warren piped unhelpfully.

Katie waved a wing at Tina. "Hi!"

"Or smart guys?" Jonathan said.

"Did anybody do their math homework already? Cos if not, I can help..." Willow said, going even more red, trying to change the subject.

"Hi." Tina waved

Alex looked up from the music watching and over to the group of kids that had gathered. He contemplated quietly, still absently tapping his fingers in time to the song.

"I didn't!" said Buffy "You can- no. I have to learn this myself this year."

Kya headed in, and settled near Alex. "Hi!"

"Are you looking for someone?" Katie inquired.

"Math homework? I could use a hand," Nica said. "Do you tutor?"

"Sure do." Willow said, pleased her diversion tactic had worked.

Alex smiled as Kya came in and sat by him. "Hello," he said. "How's your new house?"

"No." said Tina "But this chair was empty."

"I already did mine," Jonathan said. "I'm completely done homework for the weekend."

"I suck at math," Nica said, "and I know at least one other person who could use help with it."

"I love it!" Kya replied, cheerfully "You should come over for dinner! It has a great kitchen! I'll make spaghtti o's and grilled cheese!"

"Great!" Willow said, genuinely excited about helping others learn.

"Oh... I'd like to," Alex said, looking down at his hands. "But would Spike mind?"

"I used to tutor last year, Ashton, but he's kinda gone all fruit loopy and weird. Would be nice to work with someone new."

"Not at all!" Kya didn't think he would mind. "He won't care."

Nica nodded. "Okay. I'll talk to Gil, and we'll get back to you and schedule stuff. That helps a lot. I was getting help from Anna, but she's ... you know ... got other stuff to do."

"Oh... okay then. When do you want me to come over?" Alex asked. He'd gotten better at communicating with people, at least with friends.

"Wednesday." said Kya "And what's your favorite color?"

"I..." Alex hadn't really thought of this before. It took him a while of contemplation. "Blue, like the sky," he answered finally.

"That's a really nice color!" Kya smiled "I'm going to get something for you."

"You know Gil?" asked Tina, to Nica "He's nice, isn't he?"

"Yeah ... Gil's pretty cool," Nica said.

"You're nice too," said Tina "Most are mean, but a few people are nice"

"That's about right," Nica said.

"For me?" Alex was surprised. "Thank you."

"That new kid?" Jonathan asked, having seen Gil in some of his classes. Including the special ones.

"Yep." Tina nodded. "I think I've seen all of you at school, right?"

Nica nodded. "Yep, we're all Sunnydale freaks."

"Why is this town called Sunnydale, when it's so depressing?" asked Tina.

Nica laughed. "Irony?" she suggested.

"Because the sun is always shining- it hardly ever rains here," Jonathan said. "It's like stupidly overly sunny."

"Nobody wants to think about the shadows," Katie added.

"So... Wednesday. I'll come over. Do you want me to bring something?" Alex asked. He knew people who went over for dinner often brought things for their host, at least according to television shows.

"Only if you want to," said Kya "Maybe twinkies, or something."

"Oh." Tina nodded "So, it's Sunyndale, so that people don't know it's more like hell-dale. I mean, it's probably sunny in hell, and really hot."

"Yeah," Katie agreed.

"Pretty much," Jonathan agreed.

"Oh.. twinkies. I could get those," Alex said. He'd seen them at the store, though usually he avoided things with that many preservatives. "Thank you for inviting me over."

"Oh, you're welcome! It's going to be great to have you over! I can show you the piano, and the new TV, and it has this neat loft thingy in the attic." Kya seemed excited to have visitors

"So, what's this I hear about fumigation day?" asked Tina

Buffy was peeking at Willow's homework. "So.. Will, you might have to come over later, and check out my homework.. I totally don't think I got some of it right."

"Oh.. once a year the Bronze gets fumigated," Jonathan said. "Right before they close for it, they have a special. You squish a roach, you get a free drink for bringing it up to the bar."

Willow looked up. "I thought you wanted to do it all by yourself?" She questioned.

"That'll be fun," Alex said, giving her a shy smile.

"I saw a really bad movie once, about ants." said Tina "They attacked people. What if the roaches do that?"

"Well, okay, yeah, but I can't fail. Mom already says I spend too much time with Xander, and if I get stuff wrong, I'll fail, right? You can help me not fail."

"I can help you not fail, Buffy." Will said, patting her friend on the arm. "It's the least I can do after you made Xander not a dork anymore. Well, in his mind at any rate...." She joked.

Katie frowned. "Then you run really fast."

"That's only happened once," Jonathan said.

"Speak of the Xander, and he shall appear," Xander said, settling beside Buffy. "Hiya, Will. Hiya ... lots of other people."

Nica waved.

"Only once?" asked Tina "So, you run fast, and with a big can of roach spray?"

Buffy hugged the Xander.

"Right," Katie nodded.

"Hey Xander." Willow said greeting her friend.

Warren nodded. "Hey."

Xander hugged the Buffy, and smiled at Willow. "How's everyone tonight?"

"Homeworky." Willow answered, pointing to her books still on the table. Though technically she had finished everything she needed to do.

"I still have things to do before school tomorrow," Xander admitted. "Or during first period."

"Xander...." Willow said with a disapproving tone in her voice

"Homeroom, the saving grace of the busy," Warren commented, amused.

"One of these days, I'm not going to let you copy me homework, and then you'll flunk a class and have to go to summer school. And it'll all be your own fault. "Willow tried to sound scolding, but it just wasn't working.

"I hate homeroom," Jonathan said.

Xander looked guilty for a moment. "That'd be horrible."

"I like it,: said Tina "I get to sleep a few more minutes."

"And then you'd miss all the hot bikini girls on the beach," Warren added helpfully.

Xander blinked, then glanced at Buffy. "I'd be okay with that," he said.

"I just figure if they'd cut out homeroom, we could just go right to our first period class and get out of school that much earlier," Jonathan said.

"Why do you want to get out of school early?" asked Tina

"To spend more time with my girlfriend and hang out and such before I have to go to after school classes," Jonathan said. "It's a lot of work."
