'By all means,' he says with a nod. 'I suppose we should begin by defining our respective positions and tasks?'

Andrew's sitting backwards on a chair next to where Mac's computer is set up, watching over her shoulder.

This isn't a reflection on Andrew's character. It's more like one on how if Mac doesn't do this exactly right, they're all going to die, and she kinda needs all of her focus to make sure that doesn't happen.
(Because if it does happen, Sam might end up as one of the first people to get killed.)

After a moment's consideration, he takes his little notebook and fountain pen, and begins to jot down a few lines. When he is finished, he puts his pen down and removes the sheet of paper from the notebook. Once he has folded the little slip of paper in half, he looks back over at Tom.
'Might I ask a favour of you, Mr Riddle?'

"Of course, sir." Although he can't imagine what kind of favor he can give to one such as Professor Lyon.
'He's probably simply trying to keep you from pacing, you idiot,' he admonishes himself, knowing full well that a certain amount of nervous energy only makes him more careful - and more powerful - when it comes time to cast.

'If you would be so kind, do not open this slip of paper unless I ask you to do so.' One corner of his mouth twitches, briefly. 'If all goes well, we will not need it, but I prefer to have the precaution in place.'
