So a not so resolution is to chat here more often - and more often than annually shouldn't be THAT much of a challenge.
This last week Toronto was hit with bitter cold, so my brain wanted outside entertainment. I saw a couple of movies, a couple of festival plays, went to a comic signing, and heard a NerdCore rapper rap about Kafka's Metamorphosis. Plus Agent Carter (insert all the squee here)
I was going to see Big Hero 6 and Gone Girl back to back on cheap Tuesday, but BH6 hit me in the feels, plus I stuck around for the post credit scene. Knowing Agent Carter was on that night, I decided to put off the heavier Gone Girl and, after seeing it Wednesday, was glad I had.
I enjoyed Big Hero 6, especially the song Immortals - which might become one of my new 'yes you can' songs, and the visual style was fun, especially the flight scenes.
And the tone of Gone Girl would have been emotional whiplash if I'd backed to back them. I'd been careful not to read too much about it, so was surprised to see Neil Patrick Harris, especially playing a character who wasn't brimming with self confidence. Did enjoy the indictment of the role of media, and media manipulation in crimes.
Toronto has a few rappers who qualify as NerdCore, which from what I've gleaned, means rapping about geeky things! I've got albums from
Wordburglar Bandcamp who has a whole album dedicated to Cobra from G.I.Joe, and
More Or Les who's Bigger on the Inside album is a love letter to Doctor Who. Let's see if I did those links properly.
The fact that I can see these guys live and not for too much money is just another reason I love my city. Why not give them a listen?
I've been an avid supporter/volunteer at the Toronto Fringe Festival for years and over the last four years the same organization has hosted a "Next Stage" festival where invited parties take a project to a longer length or give it a bit more polish etc.
I got called to fill in for someone at work on Thursday, putting me in the area of the Festival. I also has recently found my Volunteer card, with extra stamps that were redeemable for a free ticket. WIN! I saw a short 30 minute piece called "Graham Clark reads the Phone Book" which was more of an ode to the by-gone tech of the yellow pages. and then, since I was there, I picked up a ticket to DINKS - which was about two sisters, two women in the Kandahar military base, and a crime in Ottawa. With punk style songs.
Again - two very different critters, but I'm glad I saw both.
So that's a bit about what I've been up to. At some point I will have to tackle the laundry beast, but not today!
