BACKGROUND: Giselle was born into a wealthy family, and her parents' only child. Her father was on the board of directors for a massive entertainment company and her mother was a socialite. From an early age, Giselle was taken to musical theatre productions, which she adored. Given her father's position, she was able to meet the cast and crew, and was utterly delighted by the magic of the stage. Her parents enrolled her in dance, gymnastics, sewing classes and vocal classes, both because it made Giselle happy and because it kept her busy. In spite of their wealth and trying to make sure Giselle had everything she could want, her parents still made an effort not to spoil her. They expected her to do chores, and they showed her the importance of philanthropy and being aware of her privileges.

When her powers developed at age eleven, it wasn't dramatic so much as it was odd. She was singing a song to herself while walking home from school, and everyone around her started joining in, following her in a little parade and moving to the rhythm of the song. Even animals got in on it. She didn't even realize it was happening at first, and was too delighted to think about what was actually happening. When she got home, her nanny promptly fainted when she saw all the people twirling around on the Vanderhall estate's property.

Several other similar incidents happened over the next few months before the family was finally contacted by the Xavier Institute, and Giselle was offered a place in the school. Since then, she's been learning to become more aware of the effects she can have on other people, but she hasn't made a lot of progress with her powers.

PERSONALITY: Giselle is a sweet, compassionate and rather naive girl. She is outgoing and very optimistic. Her levels of optimism occasionally border on delusional. Giselle likes to look for the best in others and will view people in a positive light until given reason to believe otherwise. It's also hard to make her angry. If someone is unkind to her, she's more likely to be sad than angry. Although Giselle is a hopeless romantic who loves stories where the boy saves the girl, she's surprisingly brave, resourceful and competent with a sword.

APPEARANCE: Giselle has a slim build, long red hair, vibrant blue eyes and fair skin. She adores wearing dresses, and is almost never found wearing jeans, track pants or shorts. She will wear them when expected to and that's about it. Giselle is a girly girl, through and through.

POWERS: Mass hypnosis/mind control over people, animals, and insects. The effect is stronger on animals and insects than it is on people, but Giselle can compell others to do what she wants. The effect is greatly amplified by the use of her voice. Fortunately, most of this is subconscious and there's no malicious intent behind the use of the ability. Typically, she'll get help in completing a task (such as cleaning or sewing), or she'll have a song in her head, and when she starts singing, people will be compelled to join in, sing, dance, etc. Since she's not actively trying to force people to do things, it *can* be resisted...although if she starts singing, even a person with very strong psionic resistance might still drum their fingers on their desk to the beat without realizing it.

ANYTHING ELSE?: I promise I will post OOC warnings about threads where Giselle's subconsciously using her powers so that people can choose to have their characters singing and dancing or to avoid her while it's happening. ^_~ Also, I think it would be hilarious if she helped her teammates fight a villain by making his/her minions break out into a well choreographed song.

- RP SAMPLES
First-person sample: I re-watched Titanic last night. I love that movie. It's so sweet and romantic, although the ending is very sad. I want to fall in love like that one day, only without the tragic ending. I want someone to just completely sweep me off my feet and be head over heels in love. Someone who will send me flowers and do thoughtful things just for the sake of doing them. It would be wonderful! But I can't complain. I am happy here.

Third-person sample: Giselle hummed to herself while she worked on her trigonometry homework. She was somewhat distracted, enjoying music much more than she enjoyed working out equations. Her window was open, and at first, she didn't notice the small collection of birds, chipmunks and squirrels that had entered the window since she started working on her homework.

"I don't suppose any of you can help with my trigonometry homework," she mused, gently running her finger over the top of a chipmunk's head. The chipmunk looked up at her and chattered bewilderedly.

"That's all right," said Giselle with a little chuckle. "I guess you wouldn't know what trigonometry is, much less how to do it." She offered her visitors some seeds before sending them on their way.

It was miraculous enough that they helped her with her chores, really. At least at the Xavier Institute, it wasn't considered any odder than any other special gift. She had been asked on more than one occasion if she was for real, and once was told she lived in a happy world of make believe, but she'd taken the comments in stride. Ultimately, she did know how to separate fantasy from reality. She just preferred to indulge herself in her daydreams, and she believed in being true to herself. There was no point in pretending to be someone she was not. She wasn't serious, stern, or even snarky. She was not a cynical pessimist. She was a glass half-full type of girl and content with the way she was.
