I had to admit, I was pretty surprised when Forrest took off without us. He'd been acting as though we weren't going to make it to the rendezvous point on time, when we had a good half and hour left to get there. I think Graham called him out spot-on. He was just in a rush to go see that new girl. Agent Harper? Something like that. Forrest denied it, of course, but both Graham and I knew better. Neither one of us was about to stand in his way, so when he left for the Bronze, we lagged a bit longer. Had to give him some time to work his magic, or else he might get cranky.
I'll admit, that wasn't the only reason I'd been lagging. This was the first assignment Alpha squad had been given under the command of someone other than myself. I knew that Walsh had her reasons for giving Bailey command of the team .. succubus and all, but still, it just didn't sit well with me for some reason. Unfortunately I had Graham to rib me all the way there about it. What would I do without these friends of mine? As we approached the club, we spotted Forrest up ahead talking to none other than squad-leader herself. Not exactly the girl I'd expected him to move in on, but at least he'd set some higher goals for himself.
"Ahh, my man Ri likes to primp like the pretty farm boy he is. He'll be here."
"Talking about me?" I spoke up from behind Forrest, while Graham came up to stand beside me. It was pretty akward, being out on assignment in not just civies, but dressed as though we were supposed to be having a good time. As Forrest turned to respond to my question, I caught sight of Hayes standing just behind him. You know, if I didn't hate the fact that she'd usurped my position so much right now, I might actually be intimidated by the way she looked in that get-up. Not that it had anything to do with anything. At all.
I couldn't help but to grin and shake my head as Riley and I approached Forrest and Agent Hayes. Forrest really didn't care who it was he moved in on so long as he was getting it somewhere, did he? I'd have to be sure to give him some hell for it later. I'm sure it must've rubbed Riley the wrong way, too. After all, that was his best friend moving in on his supposed 'arch-nemesis.' Should be interesting to see how he reacted to the whole scenario, anyway.
"You two seem to be getting pretty chum-y," I heard Riley address the two of them while I came up beside him. Glancing in his direction, all of the humor I'd previously found in the situation seemed to leave pretty quickly. Man, he wasn't seriously mad, was he? Forrest was just being Forrest. Surely he didn't expect anything less. Besides, he probably wasn't even flirting with her. Maybe. Rather than do nothing, and allow the scene to escalate, I decided to intervene then and there.
"So we all ready to go?" I asked, the aim of my question posed at directing Hayes' attention from Riley's little hang up.
I was just about to glance down at my watch to check the time when Agents Finn and Miller walked up. You just have to love it when they show up on time. You know, maybe this mission wasn't going to be all that bad after all. I mean I have three rather attractive looking guys to keep tabs on and I could think of worst ways to spend my night.
Snapping my compact closed, I shoved it back into my purse and gave a light smile to both in hopes that any hard feelings were now forgotten. But the vibe I was getting from Riley was telling me otherwise. Why is it that guys can't see past their own egos? Well whatever. He can figure out what he's missing out on later. No wait, that came out all wrong.
"You two seem to be getting pretty chum-y."
I tried hard not to laugh, really I did, but unfortunately it really wasn't working. And if there weren't so many civilians around I probably would have called him out on it. Instead I slipped my arm around Forrest and flashed one of my more dazzling smiles. "What can I say," I replied playfully. "He's like a fungus." I gave Forrest a light nudge and a wink to keep him from letting his feelings get hurt.
"So we all ready to go?"
I gave a silent sigh of relief when Graham spoke up. I just had a feeling things were about to get all weird again, and I did not need to deal with it right now. Gotta keep cool and collected in order to make this op go down without and kinks. I reached up and ran my fingers through my hair and then took a moment to straighten my top and smooth out my slacks. "How do I look?" I asked Agent Harper because I knew she would be the only one capable of giving me a straight answer. "Totally hot." I think I almost felt myself blushing at her reply. Okay Bailey let's pull it together.
"Okay here's how it's going down. Forrest, Graham and Nicole, you're going in together. Riley, you're with me." I waited for any protests and fortunately there weren't any. "All right people, let's do this."
When Ri and Graham finally showed up, I gave them a big ol' grin. Okay so maybe I was trying to work a little magic with Hayes but you can't blame a guy for tryin'. Besides, she was looking way too fly for me not to.
"What can I say, He's like a fungus."
Whoa now, hold up. Did she just call me a fungus? Man if it wasn't for that wink she woulda been in a world of trouble with me later. 'Fungus,' hmph, what the hell is that about. I am way too fine to be compared to a fungus. I stood up and straightened out my shirt. Just gotta let it roll off like nothing.
"How do I look?" "Totally hot."
Wait a second, was Nicole checking her out? Oh man I could so die happy right now if they would just...
"Okay here's how it's going down. Forrest, Graham and Nicole, you're going in together. Riley, you're with me. All right people, let's do this."
Damnit, torn from that fantasy like it was going out of style. I moved over to Nicole and slipped my arm around her back. "Come on beautiful, let's party." I flashed my smoothest smile as I began to lead her inside of The Bronze. "Oh yeah, Graham I guess you can come too."
Once the tension had more or less been cleared, everyone seemed a bit more at ease. Everyone, of course, being myself and Agent Hayes. Forrest was probably too busy worrying about his own ego to notice, and Riley was still eminating those crazy making-things-akward vibes. He really needed to get over himself if we were going to make tonight's bag and tag successful.
"Okay here's how it's going down. Forrest, Graham and Nicole, you're going in together. Riley, you're with me. All right people, let's do this."
I was almost relieved to be paired up with the two lovebirds. It sure as hell beat sticking with the Ice Queen and Agent Hayes. Nothing he could do about it now, he was stuck with her. If Riley didn't ease up about the whole situation, then it might even jeopardize our mission.
"Come on beautiful, let's party." Forrest spoke up, as he wrapped his arm around Harper and started toward the club. "Oh yeah, Graham I guess you can come too." He continued, after pausing to glance back in my direction. Once again, I found myself shaking my head, before giving Riley a little nudge with my elbow and following them inside. Hopefully he'd get the picture and lighten up.
I watched as Forrest, Graham and Harper headed into the club, before turning my attention back to the inevitable. Agent Hayes was just watching me as though she expected me to speak up and say something. As much as I enjoyed the thought of doing just that, I wasn't willing to risk blowing our only cover. She was probably loving this. In fact, I was almost certain that she'd divied us up the way she did just so that she could rub it into my face that she had command of my team. Nevertheless, we still had an assignment to carry out, and I wasn't about to let personal feelings get in the way. The last thing I needed on my perfect record was a reprimand.
Hayes was holding out her arm, as if expecting us to enter the Bronze like an actual couple. I sighed, pushing aside my frustration for the time being, and reached over to link my arm through hers. This really was hell. Might be worse if she was at least semi-unattractive. No, wait. That would be better. Whatever. The two of us headed inside a good distance behind Forrest and the others. The last thing we needed was for someone to grow suspicious of our group. I did my best to look the part, and even plastered on a fake smile. Maybe the guys were right. Maybe I just needed to deal with it this once. After the mission, Walsh would hand back over command of alpha squad .. wouldn't she?
Suddenly my facade crumbled, and I started to worry again.
A light sigh of relief parted my lips when Riley finally took my arm. I mean I'm not hideous or anything so it couldn't have been that horrible, could it? I tried to shrug it off and put on my party face, and for the most part it worked. Well until I caught Riley's expression drop like his dog had just died. Ugh, this was going to be the longest night ever.
I pulled him through the crowd with me, flashing smiles and passing formalities between some of the sisters that were there. This op was just way too public for my tastes, but what could I do? We had no choice. We made our way over to the bar and I ordered while Riley pouted. This was just getting ridiculous. I grabbed my coke and his beer and nudged him over to the side of the room where there weren't very many people.
"Here," I said as I handed him the beer. "Just sip it or we're going to blow this." After a quick glance to make sure no one was listening, I took a step into him. "Look, I have no intention on taking the Alpha squad away from you, just know that okay?" I gave him a soft smile, my brown eyes giving off a twinkle as I looked at him. I really did hope he felt the sincerity behind what I just said.
Before he could answer, I heard some people coming up behind us. Yeah, not good. Without giving myself time to think, I pushed myself against him and pressed my lips to his to give him a quick kiss. Now there's something I wouldn't do every day. I pulled back, a slight blush on my cheeks but kept the act going. "Come on let's dance."
Well, at least other people seemed to be enjoying themselves. I guess I could have been trying a little harder. I knew better than anybody how frustrating it could be heading a mission when one of your subordinates didn't fall in line. Hayes pulled me through the crowd of people and over toward the bar. Unfortunately, tonight I'd be playing the part of the boyfriend. We had a cover to keep, after all. She returned a few minutes later, shoved a beer into my hand, before grabbing my wrist and tugging me to a much more remote area within the club. At least she had no problems taking charge.
"Just sip it or we're going to blow this." What was I supposed to do, argue? She really shouldn't have purchased an alcoholic beverage on assignment, but then it might have come off as slightly suspicious if I were the only guy in here over twenty-one still drinking a coke. I did as she had suggested, and took a small sip from the beer as she moved in closer and addressed me in a much quieter tone.
"Look, I have no intention on taking the Alpha squad away from you." The statement came from left field. She really was forward, wasn't she? Can't say I didn't respect that. Was I really that transparent? That wasn't the issue now, though. "Just know that, okay?" She finished her statement, before granting me a small smile. All right, so maybe I had misjudged her just a little. Unless of course she was playing me at the moment, in which case I probably deserved to be replaced for falling for her act. As I opened my mouth to respond she moved in closer, her body pressed flush against mine and yeah, lips all pressed up against mine, too. Not exactly .. what I was expecting but .. just a part of our cover, right? No sooner had it happened, she was already pulling me in another direction.
"Come on let's dance."
"Hold on a second," I spoke up again, planting my feet firmly in place and tugging her back toward me before she could drag me off again. I knew we had a cover to keep, but we also still had an a mission to complete. With Bailey standing in front of me to block anyone else's view, I pulled out the scanner that Professor Walsh had given us to track the succubus with. Bailey glanced about to make sure we weren't drawing any unwanted attention, before focusing on the device I'd been holding out between the two of us.
"Over there," I nodded with my head in the direction of an attractive looking blonde girl about our age, who seemed to have drawn quite a substantial crowd of men around her already. That was too easy -- we could have spotted her without the stupid scanner. Closing the device, I placed it into Agent Hayes hand for concealment. "Watch how it gets done," I said simply before breaking away from her and heading in the direction of the hostile. Pushing through the mass of testosterine-ridden men was easy enough. My plan of action was simply enough -- approach the succubus, and lead her somewhere a bit more discrete for the others to come in and make the capture. It sounded like a simple enough plan.
I was getting bored. There was too much choice, and not enough challenge here. I would dance for a while, grind against them, get them going and toss them aside. I was getting a reputation as a tease yet they still hung around. Like flies on a corpse. My mind flashed to Parker. I wondered if someone had found him yet. All clutching his chest like I had stabbed him or something. Which just wasn't my style.
After I shoved the seventh guy off me for trying to get a bit too fresh with me I glanced around the room trying to find a challenge. Of course it didn't help when they were all coming towards me. However my eyes darted as I saw someone headed my way. He seemed not like the usual trappings I would get. He seemed strong. Confident. Not someone that needed an ego stroke. Maybe he needed a different kind of stroke. I could help with that. Maybe it was that he wasn't like all the others that had flocked to me... but there was something that I liked about him.
"Mind if I cut in?"
"Not at all." I shoved the louse off of me and let my hand drape across this new one's shoulder. He was strong, a lot of will to him too. I would really enjoy breaking him. It would be something new for me, and from the looks of him? Lots to give in that department too. I leaned in closer to him whispering into his ear.
"So what's your name stranger?"
"Riley..."
Oh yeah, that was easier than I thought it would be. He was already enamored with me. A little light contact and he was mine. I started to pull him away from the group and he moved willingly. Taking steps backwards I felt my back hit the side door. I leaned back and let the door open to the outside. The air was stale and cold and smelled a bit like garbage. It was enough to make me want to stop and go back into the club, however taking tiny draws of energy was getting boring. I wanted to go for the kill, and he looked like he had enough to get me off in more ways than one.
I pressed him against the wall and ran my hands across his chest. He had no control now. I went in for a kiss slowly.
"All mine now."
My lips pressed to his and I started to draw... something was off though.. I couldn't sort it out... but there was something not right here... I pulled away for a moment trying to figure it out.
When Riley took off it took everything ounce of self control I had within my being not to smack myself. I mean hello, succubus! Quickly I shoved the device into my purse and followed after him, being sure to keep a few feet behind so I didn't mess up whatever it was he had planned. But deep down I knew this wasn't a good idea. I mean men are drawn to her for a reason right? Why would Riley be able to resist her charms or whatever the hell she had? Besides, I didn't think she was that cute anyway.
Sipping my drink I watched as he moved in, giving a slight nod to Forrest, Graham and Nicole. When they all acknowledged, I turned my focus back to Finn. At least they were ready with the backup if I needed it. And from the looks of it, I was going to need it. He hadn't been within three feet of her for more than thirty seconds and he was already drooling. "Damnit," I muttered into my drink. This was not good at all.
I could feel eyes on me when the pair headed for the back door. Of course, they saw us come in together and now my 'boyfriend' was taking off with the club slut. Well, if they wanted a show, I was going to give them a show. Not that I was going to enjoy this or anything of course. This was purely for the sake of the mission. I handed my drink off to some random stranger. "Oh no he fucking didn't." I heard the 'oohs' fill the air as I stormed after them. Now the only problem was going to be any spectators that wanted to see how this all ended. Oh well, gotta do what you gotta do.
Pushing through the door, I came out just in time to see her about to go in for the kill. Oh yeah, he was certainly showing me how to get it done. Just as she was pulling back from him, I closed the distance between us and reached out to grab her hair. I mean I was going to have to do this chick fight style or people might get suspicious you know? With her hair between my fingers, I yanked her head back and pulled her away from Riley. "Excuse me, that's my boyfriend bitch."
I waited for her to turn around and just as she did, I drew my arm back and sent my fist flying into her face. And man did it feel good. She fell back and landed on the pavement with a loud thud. "Maybe you should take your trashy ass some place else," I hissed as I leaned down and pulled her back to her feet by her hair. I could hear the crowd behind me and I really had no choice but to knock her out. Oh well, it was all for the good of the op right?
I pushed her back into the wall, quickly moving over to her before she could regain her composure. As soon as she had looked up, my hand flew across her face with a loud slap. "Next time you should try for someone who isn't taken you slut!" Winding back up, I let loose my final jab, my fist connecting with her jaw. I probably should have held back, but I was kind of pissed off by that point. She slid down the wall and fell into an unconscious heap. Now to deal with the civilians.
Dusting myself off, I ran my fingers through my hair and straightened myself out. Everyone who had come out was just kind of standing there staring at me. "Well I guess she won't be hitting on any more boyfriends now will she?" I laughed to the crowd. Forrest and Graham shooed everyone back inside and I turned to check on Riley. "How was that for getting it done?" I grinned.
"Well I guess she won't be hitting on any more boyfriends now will she?"
Bailey's voice was the first coherent thing I could remember. I shook my head, everything seemed a little cloudy. Glancing to my left, I noticed Forrest and Graham handle the crowd control. Lying on the pavement not too far away from where everyone had been standing was .. wait, that girl was the succubus, wasn't she? What the hell had just happened?
"How was that for getting it done?" Bailey's voice sounded again. This time, she was sporting a grin that I know was meant to rub it in. Not that I didn't deserve it. Everything seemed to be falling back into place. The club, the succubus. Even my diving in head-first when I should have known better. Still, didn't mean I had to like the fact that she'd been able to get one up on me. I suppose a little friendly competition never hurt anyone, though. Reaching into my back pocket, I pulled out an Initiative issued cellphone, and held it out toward Hayes.
"You wanna call it in?" I asked, before allowing my gaze to trail back toward the poor girl succubus she'd just dropped like a bag of rocks. She'd earned the credit, after all.
I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when it took Riley a little while to come around. I mean my right hook was one thing, but what ever that succubus was packing had to have been carrying one hell of a punch. It was kind of cute though, Riley looking all dazed. No wait, I shouldn't be thinking about that right now. Bad Bailey.
I watched as he pulled the cell from his back pocket. "You wanna call it in?" My brow quirked as he offered it to me. Huh, I wonder what else he had under those clothes. No wait, in his clothes.! Oh god. Okay so when did my mind end up in the gutter like it was going out of style? Okay, just got to breathe and keep acting cool. Piece of cake right? Yeah right.
Flashing a soft smile I shook my head. "No go ahead, I just want to make sure she gets secured before she wakes up." Okay so that was half the truth. Digging into my purse I pulled out a couple zip ties and some duct tape I had remembered to grab before I left. What? A girl has got to be prepared for these things.
Not five seconds after I had her secured, the Delta squad showed up to take her in. Standing up, I dusted my hands off and turned to face the team. "Delta squad you take her back to the base. Alpha squad I've been given orders to give you the rest of the night off..." I tried not to smile as the sighs of relief filled the hair. "However, don't stay out too late, we have a debriefing scheduled at 0800 hours. Dismissed."
new girl. Agent Harper? Something like that. Forrest denied it, of course, but both Graham and I knew better. Neither one of us was about to stand in his way, so when he left for the Bronze, we lagged a bit longer. Had to give him some time to work his magic, or else he might get cranky.

My lips pressed to his and I started to draw... something was off though.. I couldn't sort it out... but there was something not right here... I pulled away for a moment trying to figure it out.
"What the hell?"

Dismissed."
