I stood over the sink hands soaking in the soapy water trying to piece together the last hour. It was pretty much a blur of giggles and exchanged glances. This was why Hank and I had waited a few years before having Dawn. Buffy was older and the gap between their ages was a good thing. My focus returned to the noise in the front room. Taylor's parents had either had enough of her and sent her early, or she convinced them that this weekend was too much school for her to miss. Either way she was here. Here and with a sports car. It made me nervous of course. Taylor was old enough for a car, but Dawn wasn't. Well by law she was, but I didn't like the idea of her driving around without me knowing about it. I had a small talk with Taylor about it, but I wasn't sure if she was just nodding in agreement to appease me or if she was being sincere.
There was a shreik from the front room and Dawn tore into the kitchen grabbing an apple and thankfully eating it instead of throwing it at Taylor. She took off running in her socks and I prayed that a trip to the emergency room wouldn't be on the agenda for the evening. Rinsing the final dish I set it into the drying rack and wiped my hands dry. The kitchen was still a bit of a mess, but it was mostly things that Taylor's parents had shipped here. One by one the two of them would rush in grab a box and head up to Buffy's room. It was odd. I knew Buffy had moved out. Moved on. She had grown up, but it still felt odd filling her room with someone else. Taylor was a nice girl, but she wasn't Buffy.
I was glad thought that we had gotten all her stuff packed up sooner than we had planned. With Taylor showing up early it made a big difference. I headed to the living room, which wasn't as bad as the kitchen however it was well on it's way.
"You two better make sure that you don't leave this mess down here."
