I glanced down at Charlie's shoes. "Cute shoes," I said trying to seem upbeat. "Ready ( Read more... )

I swallowed hard. The chunky part of the candy bar scraped along my throat almost choking me. Great. That would have just topped it all off. Xander Harris death by chocolate. Literally. Buffy smiled at me, I guess I was doing better, or she was laughing on the inside at the hilarity that is my life.

"Definately, I think I'm going to stop my home before I meet up with you guys tonight though. I think my mom's probably turned my room into a storage place again, not to mention Dawn going through all my stuff. Plus, I should practice that scene, you know between the two of them I've got my best and worst critics."

That last part was followed with a 'Faith is an evil killer and I have to make sure my Mom and Sister are still alive' type look. I nodded in agreement.

"Of course, that scene is pretty complex though, you might want to make sure you are really prepared for any bad opinions."

I gave her a look, and thought see I can play the talk in code game too. I finished the candy and shoved the wrapper in my pocket. I was not about to litter in front of girl. Not that I littered in general, I was just suddenly more aware of my actions in front of Charlie.

"But definately all about the relieving stress with some good old fashing dancing. Have you talked to Will recently? I'm with the wanting her there."

I stopped short. I hadn't talked to Will in a while. I kinda missed it. The whole meeting in the library, getting the research done. They were all here, and I was in the basement of mildew. I shuddered at the thought for a moment, then picked up the lighter conversation again.

"I'll give her a call for sure. Make sure she knows what the what is. Maybe she has some pointers for your scene too."

Charlie had to be curious. All this talk about drama and plays and scenes, she must have thought we were really into the theater, or crazy. Then again she was pretty new in town. Probably wasn't tired of the same lame excuses for supernatural occurances. The whole gang on PCP thing was pretty much a joke for us now.

"So, Charlie... have you been to The Bronze yet? It's pretty much the only thing to do in town."

She nodded her head no, and I should have known. We already talked about this, or at least I thought we had. This was the whole purpose of the meeting and the hanging out. I sighed. Buffy rolled her eyes at me, realizing just what a schlep I was becoming.

"Right. Well if you want I can come pick you up and we can go together since you aren't too familiar with the area."

Again I swallowed hard. I was trying to be cool and collected. Think like Oz. Be like Oz. I bet Oz wouldn't have gallons of sweat coming from his palms, and man is it hot in here... out here? I feel kind of light headed.. oh... breathe!! Phew. Yep. This was going perfectly, in a not at all sense.

"Sounds lovely, say 'round nine?"

I nodded in agreement, that was about all I could muster up. Words had become my enemy that and saliva. My mouth was dry and just horrible. Why was I being so odd. Maybe it was the 'talk' I had with Cordelia. She wasn't too nice, and it could have affected me more than I realized. All I knew was I had to get out of there, pretty much now.

"Sounds great- Buffy? Good luck with the scene, I am off to fetch a Wit-Willow!" I started taking steps away from the two of them, backing up slowly bumping into a bench and nearly taking a seat. Buffy just stood there shaking her head. I would have to collect myself before tonight. This was not going to go well. Maybe a bit of Willow time would do me good. Like the old days. One final wave goodbye to the two of them and I turned and headed back into town on a Witch Hunt, not really in the tie her to a stake mode though.
