He was born 5 days past my due date.
I had a few days of contractions that came and went, contractions were going between 2 and 5 minutes apart but weren't very painful, it was just uncomfortable. I was very anxious about the birth because we were planning on having him at home and most of the people we told weren't very supportive but James and I both kept telling each other that we were capable of doing it, we were prepared and kept the positive vibes up.
On Monday, February 22nd, I woke up around 5:45am to pee and felt contractions but I wasn't very sure if it was it or just another of these dumb prodermal contractions so I got on the computer in the office to play mafia wars and time some contractions online.. Sure enough contractions were coming between 2-3 minutes and lasting longer than 45 seconds to a minute and half. I had to stand up and sway side to side to ease the pain away. I woke up James and told him i thought it was starting but not to worry now and that I was going downstairs to take a bath to see if they would go away. I stayed in the tub for about 45 minutes watching an episode of Brothers and Sisters on hulu.com.
I got out and still had these contractions so I put my pjs back on and started picking a few things up and blew up the birth tub in the kitchen. Everything was already in place and all we had to do was set up the pool which took a max of five minutes to blow up and have James hook up the water hose to the washer hook up in the basement. I was in the process of putting the liner on the pool when James came downstairs around 7:30. I remember him asking me "Are you in labor? Are you sure?" and I replied with a contraction and kept doing what i had been doing to cope with the contractions- swaying side to side and swinging my hips around like i was doing hula-hoops. I had to get the toliet cleaned upstairs becuase it was driving me crazy and I knew that since my parents would be coming down from St. Charles to help out for a few days. I wanted the house to look somewhat decent ha. I cleaned the mirror as well. I remember the cats were really friendly and curious.
I went back downstairs to vaccuum and told James to go ahead and fill up the pool because I wanted to get in. Oh man! The tub felt so much better when I got in! I still felt the pain but i coped by staying on all fours and rocking back and forth or leaning on the side of the pool. I had James crush some ice for me to chew on (I had been craving ice for weeks) which actually turned out to be a symptom of having low iron. I basically spent the majority of time in the pool.
I went through transistion which actually happened and lasted for a short period of time. I started worrying about pooping in the pool and realized it was the baby coming out! DUH! I pushed when my body felt like i needed to push. He came out and had vernix all over him. He was crying and started nursing like a champion.
I couldn't believe the emotions. I wished Haven was there to see her baby brother being born. We stayed home for about two hours. James cleaned up the kitchen and put away the pool. Then we headed over to the hospital to get both of us checked out since I thought i tore but it turned out all was fine with both of us with the exception of my low iron. We stayed in the hospital overnight then came home.
Haven came home that day with my MIL. I remember being overwhelmed when they both wanted to nurse. Both my mother and mothe rin law got a huge kick of seeing me nurse both of them and had to take a picture of it ha.
