Ya know, I've never been into polictics. I mean I've always known that the government was doing things that a HUGE majority of the american public doesnt know about, but other than who the president is or going to be, i've never followed really what was going on with the UN. WEll now i'm working on this essay, and the question was asking who we thought the best suited candidate for the Secretary-General of the UN would be.... Well i started doing my research; and i was actually a bit upset with the results that I found.
The current Secretary-General of the UN is Kofi Annan, a great man from Ghana, who has served as S.G. since Jan. 1st 1997, and will be ending his 2nd term at the end of December this year (06). Since Kofi Annan was elected he has strengthened the Organzation, he encourages and advocates humans and international peace, and has restored public confidence in the organzation.
Also on Dec. 10th 2001 Annan recieved the Noble Peace Prize, with this to say from the committee; Annan has "proclaimed the only negotiable road to Global peace and cooperation."
Now that says alot about a man, when everything around him is falling apart, he can look another way and take a step up instead of taking 2 steps down.
Well like i said i was doing research and became rather upset. Apparently the United Nations Organzation has already elected a successor to Kofi Annan. So why in the hell do i have to write the essay... Well i'm still going to write the essay and fight my point till the end.
But I decided to do alittle more research on this Ban Ki-Moon guy... and OMG are you freakin serious. Not that I'm trying to say anything bad about this guy, but c'mon. This South Korean man has taken NO part in current affairs reguarding anything else except Korea. Not only has he not helped the rest of this world in time of need, but nor has he said/explained his goals and itenarty once appointed Secretary-General.
Now, the man that I'm going to be writing my essay about is Ashraf Ghani. Ghani sees that the United Nations "lacks the capacity, controls, flexibility, robustness, and transparency to handle multimillion-dollar global operations." Ghani is looking to help the "damaged" organzation.
Alright.... well i'm going to finsish this 2mara.. the foood coma is about to set in so I'm going to lay in bed with Churchy...
Love you all
PLUR
ANd if you reallly just want to know the end, Ghani is looking to bring the Organization closer to the people, he wants the public to be more involved with the current world affairs, hoping to establish trust between the two.
Honestly, he's the only cadidate that said anything about helping the people and helping the organization.
he said:
"Only by establishing trust in the organization can we make the Untied Nations the instrument of global choice for addressing the problems of our time."
!ASHRAF GHANI SHOULD BE ELECTED AS THE NEW SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS!
