I attended a presentation at our local genealogical society's general meeting tonight. Sometimes the presentation is stuff I think I might use years from now, but tonight's topic will do for here and now. Patricia Shawker, CG, talked about collecting data the Right Way, based on the BCG Standards Manual.
(BCG = Board for Certification of Genealogists)
Ms. Shawker nailed her presentation and gave me another person to emulate. She volunteers once a week as a staff aide at NARA, and her experience there *shows*.
(NARA = National Archives and Records Administration)
During the meeting, a sign-up sheet was passed around so we could volunteer to help at the Fall Fair. I signed up for the registration desk from 8-9. How hard could it be?
I sat next to a very pleasant lady named Linda MacLachlan. She won an award for working to coordinate special interest groups within the society. Her name sounds familiar, but I'll be darned if I can remember meeting her. Someday I will be at peace with the idea that I just can't remember what anyone looks like.
I have promised myself that I will make a greater effort to attend these meetings. The next get-together is this Saturday, and I'm planning to attend that one too.
