Writer's Block: Merry Christmas

Dec 26, 2011 23:56

The best present I received this year was Nicholas. He's getting ready to redeploy and has been away at training with his unit since the beginning of November. He wasn't able to come home for Thanksgiving, so although it really upset me, I wasn't too surprised when he said he wasn't going to be able to leave for Christmas. I made sure to mail his Christmas gifts in plenty of time (an ipad & accessories) with stern instructions (as any good girl friend would give) not to open until Christmas. I think that goober knew all along he was going to have leave. Fast forward to Christmas Eve's eve (December 23rd).

Every Christmas Eve's eve, we get together with my mom's entire family for appetizers and happy hour at the Fish Market in Old Towne, Alexandria. It sits right on King Street, which is always decorated for Christmas, and is really beautiful this time of year.

This picture really doesn't do the view of King Street justice. (and I don't take any credit for the photo - got it off google)

Back to this year's Friday night. I was at my cousin's house in Alexandria (per usual) with my sisters and other cousins to finish getting ready. We were supposed to be at the Fish Market at 5pm, and as the time came and went I was getting really agitated by my cousins' who appeared to be dragging their feet. As I was stomping around the house, getting more fussy, I heard the front door open, and in walked my Nick. Best.Surpise.EVER!

One of my sisters managed to get this picture - love it! Also as a disclaimer, the picture makes us look the same height, if not me taller. I was in heels and I think he had his knees bent some.

Nick obviously came with to the Fish Market. Apparently my ENTIRE family knew about Nick's plans. I'm actually really impressed that they were all able to keep it a secret. It was almost comical to see how Nick never let me further than an arms length away from him. We're usually not big PDA-ers, especially around family, but we were literally attached at the hip. And how Mr.Life-of-the-Party had about 0 interest in talking to anyone else. Don't get me wrong, I loved EVERY second of Nick's attention, every ounce of his attentiveness, every kiss on the top of my head when he thought nobody was looking; if I could've jumped on him right there, I would have.

We left my family gathering around 9, when Nick had another surprise. He insisted we walk up the street for a bit. It took a LOT of persistence on his part because I just wanted to hail a cab to get that boy back to my house. We ended up walking into Hotel Monaco, a fun, swanky hotel. He had made reservations for the night, and on top of that had champagne chilling and chocolate covered strawberries waiting. Not that the boy could do anything wrong at that point, but the sex that night was unbelievable.

The next morning, we ordered room service for breakfast and hung around in bed until about noon. (side note: Nick had one of my sisters pack me an over night bag. This boy thought of e.v.r.y.t.h.i.n.g!) When he said we were going over to his parents house for Christmas Eve, I felt bad about keeping him from them, until he told me he came in Thursday night and spent Friday during the day with them. We spent Christmas Eve with his family - dinner and church. We then went back to my parent's house to watch Christmas Vacation and drink whiskey sours out of moose mugs (tradition!). He eventually went back to his parents house and I stayed at my parents house (sad tear) so we could spend Christmas morning with our families. A little after noon he came back over to my parents house - we were still opening presents. Not that it should've surprised me, but Nick brought over the presents I had mailed to him as well as his presents to me. The boy didn't need to give me anything, especially after surprising me like he did. He kept outdoing himself. He got me the most beautiful diamond earrings I've ever seen. We hung around my parents house for a bit longer before leaving to go back to my house. I actually don't know which night was better, Friday night or Christmas night. Mind blowing.

Today we went out to brunch and then went to Mount Vernon, George Washington's house in Alexandria. It was such a nice day and we had fun. He left to go back to the base in Georgia at about 4 - we were both crying. Sad tears that we were going to be apart again, and happy tears for the amazing, magical weekend we had.

I don't think I could love that boy any more than I do, but I am more in love with him than I ever have been. We're hoping he gets another long weekend before his unit ships out, but its hard to say because they're not sure of an actual departure date. I just know that this Christmas is one I'll NEVER forget.
