the truth has a habit of falling out of your mouth

Yesterday I had a really good day.
I spent lunch time in Newtown with a friend where we had $6 Thai and wandered along King St chatting and catching up.

Then I met up with my other friend, I hadn't seen him in at least 4 or 5 months. He has been completely changing his lifestyle, trying to make a better life for himself. And seeing him was a real wake up call. He is doing so much better, he has completely changed his way of thinking and he has "grown up" so to speak which he laughed at me when I said that.
We talked about cognitive therapy and he gave me some really interesting ideas to think about from what love addiction is to being an enabler and allowing someone with a problem or addiction to keep doing what they are doing without even realizing it. It has made me think about how I act with a certain person in my life who I care about a lot. It got me really stirred up. He left me with a final thought which he said has totally changed his way of thinking- you can't change or control the way others behave or act. You can only alter and control your own behaviour. He said making this realization has helped him be a lot happier.

On that note he dropped me off at Macquarie St after spending the arvo hanging out in the Forum in Leichardt. I then headed off with Starbucks in tow to the Opera House. I had a ticket to see Glen Hansaard and Marketa Iglova. Now for most of you you have no idea who they are. So I shall give you a bit of background. In 2006 a producer and sometimes drummer for the Irish band The Frames made a low budget movie called Once. It was about an Irishman played by Glen Hansaard (who is the lead singer of The Frames) and a girl from the Czech Republic played by Marketa Iglova falling in love and making music together in the heart of Dublin.

I saw the film at the Sydney Film Festival in 2007 and at the time I was still working at Video Ezy and spent my time RAVING about this film that had me in tears. I rushed home as soon as I saw the film and ordered all the music off Amazon. It is very rare for me to be filled with such emotion to be moved to buy all their music. It is called Swell Season.

To cement the impact their music has had they won the Oscar for Best Song at last year's Academy Awards for their song 'Falling Slowly'. So, when I saw they were coming for Sydney Festival I squealed, jumped, screamed in delight.
Here is the link (so VERY MUCH worth watching):

They fell in love during filming which made the world fall in love with them more. I only found out last week after 2 years together they broke up but still continue to make beautiful music together.

So as I walked to the Concert Hall last night I noticed a crowd gathering on the steps of the Opera House. It was Glen and Marketa giving an impromptu acoustic performance. They were amazing and in their element. It took me back to the busking they both did in the film and my heart was just bursting with happiness. There is nothing like the joy you get from music. They then rushed off inside to get ready for their show.

I was lucky enough to be in the second row of the Concert Hall! I went by myself which I didn't mind at all. As soon as they came on the audience was wrapped up in their charisma, energy and passion for what they do.This old man sitting next to me asked me why I was there, and I said "for the music of course", he fell asleep during the set which baffled me.

Glen bought his band The Frames out with him and it really was like an evening with close friends. Glen was so humble and kept saying how he had dreamed of performing at the Opera House and here he is with 3 sold out shows there. He gave intricately detailed back stories to each song with his own personal experiences from previous trips to Sydney and tales from his childhood. It was so candid and raw that is was endearing. I honestly left that hall feeling enriched and changed from having seen them.

Highlights for the evening were favourites like Falling Slowly, Mind's Made Up, Lies and then ones I hadn't heard before like Leave, Happiness and the Court of Newtown (a beautiful old Irish love song from the County of Mayo)

Here are the lyric's of Leave which really struck a chord with me and what's been happening with me recently:

I can't wait forever is all that you said

Before you stood up

And you won't disappoint me

I can do that myself

But I'm glad that you've come

Now if you don't mind

Leave, leave,

And free yourself at the same time

Leave, leave,

I don't understand, you've already gone

And I hope you feel better

Now that it's out

What took you so long

And the truth has a habit

Of falling out of your mouth

But now that it's come

If you don't mind

Leave, leave,

And please yourself at the same time

Leave, leave,

Let go of my hand

You said what you have to now

Leave, leave,

Let go of my hand

You said what you came to now

Leave, leave,

Leave, leave,

Let go of my hand

You said what you have to now

Leave, leave,
