Matsujun
- Three side dishes you like in a bentou: If it's a girl I like that made it for me, anything is fine. Side dishes I generally like?
Hijiki. Also
hourensou tossed with sesame dressing. And
naradzuke. (smiling)
- What flavor ramen? Either salt or soy sauce. I like simple types.
- What about nabe? There are a few.
Chige,
motsu, suigyouza... is
sukiyaki also nabe? Then sukiyaki probably.
- Are your hands cold? Warm? My heart is cold, so my hands are warm.
- What gives you the impression that Fall has come? I think once I've eaten
matsutake dobinmushi.
- If you had to spend 100,000 yen (about $925) in its entirety, what would you use it on? No more than 100,000 yen right? (smiling) Mmm, you can't go overseas or something. A sofa, a computer... Bah! The stuff I can think up is all over 100,000 yen. (smiling) 100,000 yen is a little tough. Lemme change how I'm thinking about this. Let's see, for 50,000 yen I'd search out a coat, and for another 50,000 I'd go out for something good to eat!
- Do you prefer showers? Or the bath? When it's not a bother I take the time to have a good bath. When I'm tired and can't be bothered, I settle for a shower.
- Which do you like, the smell of soap or of perfume? Wow, that's difficult. Between perfume or body cream... I prefer body cream.
- Do you prefer coffee? Black tea? Coffee. I can't drink black tea.
- What's a dish you're good at cooking? Probably pasta. It's always pasta. But last time I made it it was awful... (smiling)
- What's your comfort food? (lit. your mother's taste) Sukiyaki. Like... Our family has the notion that everyone likes sukiyaki.
- What's the stretch of time when you're most energetic? It depends on the day, but... I'm really not in the early morning. Generally I'm strong in the evening. So I guess it'd be evening?
- When you're choosing what to wear, what do you start with? It depends on the day, but the lower half of the body. Shoes or pants. Unless there's a T-shirt or something I want to wear no matter what, I start from the bottom.
- What kind of girl can't you stand? A KY girl. I don't like people who can't understand the atmosphere.
- What's a hairstyle you like for girls? None in particular. Whatever is fine. I've never... I don't remember ever being particular about a hairstyle. (smiling)
- If you were to gift a girl with flowers, what kind? It'd be different depending on the girl. Like the colours and the type. Wouldn't you buy flowers based on your image of that person? I have absolutely no interest in the
language of flowers, so I'd ignore that part. (smiling)
- When you're traveling, who do you tend to sit next to? Probably Nino... Often Nino and Leader.
- Between 'aishiteru' and 'suki', which is harder to say? I can say either. Both are perfectly easy. I say whichever I feel at the time.
- Tell us of an instance recently where you felt the love of another member. Unsurprisingly, probably concerts. After concerts, when everyone had fun. Of course when we're performing too, but once we're finished and have gone back to the dressing rooms and everyone says "That was fun!", that leaves an impression.
- Tell us your latest news. I'm going in for movie filming. It's my first period piece. It's the mountain peoples of the civil war period. The costumes also, they suit that time and role... By which I mean that it's just plain cloth. (smiling) And so it's freezing. There's a sarashi* wrapped about my waist, and a ragged sheet [of cloth] about my shoulders, and for some reason I don't understand my costume hangs open in the front. (smiling) So I'm sitting and saying, "This... this is cold yeah?" for the moment. (smiling) There'll be some cold location shoots coming up. Yeah, the reason I haven't cut my hair is because of that. I tie it up, and then I have a really scraggly beard... It's dirty, totally. (smiling) I'll do my best, look forward to it!
* A sarashi, according to the Japanese wiki, is a white cloth from 2 to 10 meters in length that's primarily wrapped around the stomach. It was worn as an undergarment in the Edo period.
Ohno
- Three side dishes you like in a bentou: Fried chicken,
tamagoyaki,
oshinko!
- What flavor ramen?
Tonkotsu. Ah, probably miso [based]. Also, tonkotsu with shoyu and... anything!
- What about nabe? Chige-nabe. Though I haven't eaten it often. (smiling)
- Are your hands cold? Warm? Warm!
- What gives you the impression that Fall has come? The taste of Fall. Persimmons and
takikomi rice and such... but it's just this year I've felt like that. (smiling)
- If you had to spend 100,000 yen (about $925) in its entirety, what would you use it on? Fishing supplies. A pole and reel and lure... if I buy everything, it'd probably come to that amount.
- Do you prefer showers? Or the bath? Shower. I don't get in the bath. It makes me dizzy.
- Which do you like, the smell of soap or of perfume? Perfume. Perfume has a lot of fragrances.
- Do you prefer coffee? Black tea? Coffee. But when I was a child I preferred black tea. Ah... but kids don't drink coffee. (smiling)
- What's a dish you're good at cooking? Chahan!
Ankake chahan. Anything is good when you put ankake on it. They say my ankake is very delicately flavored. (smiling)
- What's your comfort food? (lit. your mother's taste) Cream stew. When the Ohno family goes to various congratulatory parties, we always take cream stew.
- What's the stretch of time when you're most energetic? The second work ends. (smiling)
- When you're choosing what to wear, what do you start with? Choose...? I don't choose or anything... I wear the same jeans every day. First I put on my jeans.... Just that. Seriously. Then I put on my socks. Because I've slept in my shirt from the previous day, I'm still wearing it. (smiling)
- What kind of girl can't you stand? A selfish one. And a girl full of complaints, I suppose. If they only complain to me? Ahh.. well, then that's fine. (smiling) But, if it isn't like that, the kind that's always discontent and complaining, I don't like that.
- What's a hairstyle you like for girls? If it suits the girl?
- If you were to gift a girl with flowers, what kind? What kind of flowers are there, again? Tulips! Eh... which ones are tulips? [Hears the description] Yeah, those. Tulips!
- When you're traveling, who do you tend to sit next to? It's not really set, but... probably Nino. But when we're in the car, Nino's in the front seat... In airplanes, usually Aibachan. This past tour, it was always Aibachan next to me. In the shinkansen? Then... often next to the manager. I don't know why. (smiling)
- Between 'aishiteru' and 'suki', which is harder to say? Eeeeh..?! Neither are hard to say.
- Tell us of an instance recently where you felt the love of another member. Probably a live. I feel it most at concerts. You know, at the end of the concert when we all join hands and raise them up, and do this [A grip where the fingers are entwined]. It's been that way since this year's tour. In the beginning, it was Aibachan who started it. To entangle our fingers. (smiling) Then, Matsujun was next to me, and I made to do it with him, and at first he hated it. (smiling) But now everyone does.
- Tell us your latest news. I'm drawing. Totally fucking boring, but. (smiling) That? No... I draw what I want without restriction, but when it gets really detailed I never finish. (smiling) Right now I'm drawing with a pen like what manga authors use, and it's getting progressively more detailed... I'm putting in letters, and various things. Yesterday, though it wasn't really that I was happy, for some reason I drew "HAPPY". For some reason I wanted to draw letters, and there's cardboard on the back of my drawing, and it said "HAPPY" there. So I thought, let's write "HAPPY!" and did so!
Sho
- Three side dishes you like in a bentou:
Ebichiri, tamagoyaki... ah. And, the whatsit. The kajiki tuna somethingorother steak-like thing.
- What flavor ramen? Only store-specific names come to mind. (smiling) Those would be salt flavor!
- What about nabe? Chige-nabe. No, actually,
shabu-shabu!
- Are your hands cold? Warm? Freezing.
- What gives you the impression that Fall has come? I just thought this the other day. Women start wearing boots, right. When I see that I think it's Fall. (smiling)
- If you had to spend 100,000 yen (about $925) in its entirety, what would you use it on? A digital camera. I have one, but I want a nicer one, and it's about that much.
- Do you prefer showers? Or the bath? Absolutely the bath. It's rare I only shower.
- Which do you like, the smell of soap or of perfume? I like the smell of shampoo.
- Do you prefer coffee? Black tea? Probably black tea. I like warm milk tea.
- What's a dish you're good at cooking? Eggplant with sesame oil stir-fried, then dressed with soy sauce and mayonnaise. My mom makes it for me but it's really easy, and when I didn't really like eggplant, it was that which caused me to start being able to eat it.
- What's your comfort food? (lit. your mother's taste) Butter sauteed
shimeji. I love it. I get really excited.
- What's the stretch of time when you're most energetic? I'm bad in the morning... Once work is over and it's about 10pm and I start drinking, then I guess 11pm I'd be at my best? (smiling)
- When you're choosing what to wear, what do you start with? From the top. I don't really start from the bottom. (smiling)
- What kind of girl can't you stand? [Pondering intensely] Wait a sec... Huh?? Just... hold off on that!
- What's a hairstyle you like for girls? If it suits them, it's totally fine.
- If you were to gift a girl with flowers, what kind? I guess like, something like a flower assortment... They have those at flower shoppes right, where they put together a lot of kinds and make it nice for you. Those are good.
- When you're traveling, who do you tend to sit next to? If it's the Arashi car it's usually Aibachan, but when it's the shinkansen or airplane or something, often Nino.
- Between 'aishiteru' and 'suki', which is harder to say? Both are difficult! "Aishiteru" would.. be impossible, even if I tried. "Suki" if I made an effort! ... No, really, both would be tough.
- Tell us of an instance recently where you felt the love of another member. On the last day of the tour, I had to leave immediately after, right? So after we finished I went right into the shower, but it seems everyone was going to have a toast with champagne, and I was told they waited a bit for me. It was really down to the wire, and I totally didn't know, so I left immediately. But I was happy they would do that for me.
- Tell us your latest news. November is the Vollyball World Cup. Coverage starts from mid-October, and they let me go to the very first group training camp, and I greeted all the players and listened to them. I got to go again recently, but this time the camera wasn't everywhere, it was just to go see the players. It's like, just seeing them practice once, I don't want to say "Do your best, Japan!" when it's the real thing... I'm sure the players will discover how serious I am, and if I said "Do your best!" with that level of seriousness I'm sure it wouldn't be good. That's why I'll find as much time as possible to go. It's coverage, after all, not a location shoot. I just... feel that way. So I want to show these players, who are loaded down morning to night, how sincere I am.
Nino
- Three side dishes you like in a bentou:
Hamburg. If there's hamburg, who cares about the rest. (smiling) Really, anything is fine. You could say I'm not interested in the food. (smiling)
- What flavor ramen? Tonkotsu. The width of the noodles? Probably the thin ones. When I was a Junior, tonkotsu was really popular. Because of that when I think of ramen tonkotsu just comes to mind.
- What about nabe? Any nabe is fine. What's the best nabe I've ever had? I don't know the name. The taste? Nothing, at that time I had it with
ponzu. Was it like
yosenabe? Sure, that then. (smiling)
- Are your hands cold? Warm? Cold without exception. When I was doing Yamada Tarou Monogatari, the kids hated it. (smiling)
- What gives you the impression that Fall has come? The other day, I saw in the news, "A beautiful harvest moon has been seen", and thought ah, it's already Fall. And of course when the maple and the ginko trees turn colours, it feels like Fall.
- If you had to spend 100,000 yen (about $925) in its entirety, what would you use it on? Probably put it in savings. You can even start an account with 100,000 yen. If it were a fixed term deposit, the interest would be high.
- Do you prefer showers? Or the bath? I prefer baths. Yesterday when I got in, it was probably the temperature my parents [like], as they got in before me, but it was awfully hot. So then it got kind of interesting. (smiling) If I stayed in the whole time, it got so warm it was like, one's body can really get this hot? And I thought a hot bath was really something. But even by 1 or 2 AM, that warmth hadn't dissipated. Eventually I thought, "Isn't this sorta weird?" (smiling) When I took my temperature it was 38.4. [Note: Just over 101 degrees F]
- Which do you like, the smell of soap or of perfume? Soap. Not that I dislike perfume, but soap is the one that doesn't bother people. No one's ever said "This soap smell is intense," right?
- Do you prefer coffee? Black tea? Not really either. If we're talking about which I drink more, it's coffee. Because at drama shootings they really only have hot coffee. Usually? I probably like [green] tea or water.
- What's a dish you're good at cooking? Cup o' Ramen. I don't cook.
- What's your comfort food? (lit. your mother's taste) I think I wouldn't know that until I move out~ What my mother's good at cooking? I don't really know. What does she frequently make? ...Probably fried chicken. Maybe.
- What's the stretch of time when you're most energetic? I'm at my best about two or three hours after I wake. Then I gradually decline.
- When you're choosing what to wear, what do you start with? I don't start anywhere. I wear what I have. Do I really look like someone who coordinates to begin with?
- What kind of girl can't you stand? Loud girls. I don't really talk that much, so I'd be thankful for someone similar. Also, a girl that'd talk about anything. This isn't just for girls but guys too, if they just say something like "Oh?" it's kind of problematic. (smiling)
- What's a hairstyle you like for girls? I don't have one. If it suits the girl then it's fine.
- If you were to gift a girl with flowers, what kind? Lots of flowers that have a low unit cost. Win or lose by quantity!
- When you're traveling, who do you tend to sit next to? In the car 99% of the time I'm next to Leader. It's random on planes, since it's decided by tickets.
- Between 'aishiteru' and 'suki', which is harder to say? "Aishiteiru". If the other person doesn't feel that way, and you suddenly come out with "aishiteiru", isn't it like, "Hey, what's with you?" "Aishiteiru" has aspects that would depend on the other person's intensity.
- Tell us of an instance recently where you felt the love of another member. I don't really feel that, "member love". Not as if I'm not loved, though. (smiling)
- Tell us your latest news. I'm taking the chance to breathe. Well, I kind of feel like, I guess it's okay to take a break. I've been doing dramas for over ten months, something like that. My private life? Just that I've caught a cold. (smiling)
Aiba
- Three side dishes you like in a bentou: Fried chicken, tamagoyaki, and rice balls! ah... rice balls aren't a side dish? (smiling)
Tarako?
- What flavor ramen? Recently salt.
- What about nabe? Motsu-nabe! I love motsu-nabe. But I don't like motsu, so it's always left over. (smiling)
- Are your hands cold? Warm? Well... it changes depending on my physical condition, but... mostly warm, probably.
- What gives you the impression that Fall has come? You catch colds in Fall. (smiling) So, wouldn't it be the temperature? The atmospheric temperature.
- If you had to spend 100,000 yen (about $925) in its entirety, what would you use it on? What would I use it on? If I had to use it, I'd call up my friends and say "Let's go eat!" and have a good dinner.
- Do you prefer showers? Or the bath? If I have the time, I prefer to take a proper bath.
- Which do you like, the smell of soap or of perfume? I like soap better.
- Do you prefer coffee? Black tea? Coffee. I've grown up.
- What's a dish you're good at cooking? I can do anything if I have a book. Though I always end up with something different than what the book says. (smiling)
- What's your comfort food? (lit. your mother's taste) Chinese cooking, likely. At times I haven't eaten much I start thinking I want Chinese.
- What's the stretch of time when you're most energetic? Bring it on from the break of dawn! But... when it's really late at night, I lose steam. (smiling) So it'd be morning and afternoon I suppose.
- When you're choosing what to wear, what do you start with? I think from the bottom. But the first thing I take care of is opening the window and checking what the temperature is outside. So then I decide on a jacket. The very top layer. So, the first thing is opening the window.
- What kind of girl can't you stand? There's really none. Though it would be nice if she had the scope of common sense.
- What's a hairstyle you like for girls? Long or short, I like them both. Just as long as it suits them, I guess.
- If you were to gift a girl with flowers, what kind? When I go see how they're doing, I go to the flower store and have them make me something within a budget... I really don't ever remember flower names. But the flower I probably like best is a sunflower. They bloom facing the sun, right? I kind of like the positive vibe.
- When you're traveling, who do you tend to sit next to? Often Leader. On the plane and such, it tends to be him.
- Between 'aishiteru' and 'suki', which is harder to say? Tough question. Uuumm... they're both difficult.
- Tell us of an instance recently where you felt the love of another member. The day of the "Experiment Special", the members left early in the morning for each their own programs. I'd caught a cold that day, and was under the weather. Matsujun left before me, right? And Matsujun said, "You've caught a cold yeah?" and he gave me what seemed like some traditional Chinese medicine, saying, "Take this. If you do you'll feel better." It seemed... I felt the love, with that. Thanks to his kindness my cold seemed to improve.
- Tell us your latest news. Talking about right now, I'm putting everything into play practice. It's a part where you have to hold back a lot of emotions, so it's really difficult. But you know, it's been two years since I've done a play! It's a piece where there's a lot of love. The love between people and their kindness, and people really change because of it. I'd be happy if people could see that. There are scenes that are in the original work that aren't in the movie, but are in the play, so I want to show the people who've liked the movie something fun. Ganbarimasu!
