GETTING INTIMATE WITH HATTUKISSA

THOUGHTS OF HATTUKISSA ON WRITING FANFICTIONS ...

TINA: How and when did you decide to be a fanfic writer?
HATTUKISSA: I never decided, it just happened. I went to JYJ's concert in Berlin and Barcelona some years ago and met some internet friends there who were writers... Back then I only drew Yunho and Jae (very badly!) so I tried writing a fic in English and got great feedback on it. Since then I've only been writing YunJae. Before that I used to write jrock fanfiction when I was much younger but in my native language, then for some reason just quit for several years until YunJae took over!

TINA: What made you to sit down and actually write something?
HATTUKISSA:I've been writing all my life to tell you the truth. I started writing my own stories when I first learnt how to read and write so I can't really remember XD

TINA: What is the first fanfic you completed?
HATTUKISSA: I can't remember at all! It was so long ago when I first started writing fics, but my first YunJae fic was called ”Can't say I love you” and it's still up on my lj where you can read it.

TINA: How did you get your idea for your first fanfic?
HATTUKISSA: I honestly have horrible memory... I have no clue! It's been so long.

TINA: Have you had any prior experience of writing before your first fanfic?
HATTUKISSA: Like I said, I've written stories all my life. When I was around 12 years old, I got the idea of writing boy & boy stories rather than boy & girl, and I've only written stories about boys ever since. How crazy is that! I just thought about how two boys together were much hotter than a girl and a boy, all on my own... I remember writing a gay vampire story when I was that age and letting my classmate read it - I still remember that she cried at the sad part of the story and it made me so happy back then! XD

TINA: Have you ever plagued by doubts on your storyline?
HATTUKISSA: Always when I'm writing. My stories might seem simple but I put a lot of thought into them.

TINA: How did you promote your fanfic to readers?
HATTUKISSA: On lj communities like Jaeho-detox and Hug. Also on tumblr sometimes.

TINA: Have you ever been anxious about how the readers receive your story?
HATTUKISSA: Every single time! I put a lot of heart and soul into both my fics and fanart so it's always nerve-wracking when I start posting a new fic.

TINA: Thoughts on how you felt when you see the first comment on the first story? Do remember who is the first commenter?
HATTUKISSA No idea, I used to post my jrock fanfiction to a Finnish forum... I can't go back anymore to read it I'm so embarrassed I wrote that shit XD

TINA: How do you prepare yourself before writing a fanfic?
HATTUKISSA: Mostly I just get comfortable and sit in front of my computer... I can't stand any noise when I'm writing so I just sit in silence so I can focus!

TINA: Do you work out plot line or do you prefer to see where your ideas or inspiration take you?
HATTUKISSA: I work out a basic plot line and then add stuff around it. I don't like to limit myself too much so I let my inspiration take over often~

TINA: When and how does your inspiration or muse come to you?
HATTUKISSA: Any time, anywhere! It can be a simple sentence I read somewhere, a picture or a song title... Anything really that gets me thinking!

TINA: What is the weirdest place you were struck by inspiration for your fanfic? Did you write the plot?
If yes what is the title of the fanfic?
HATTUKISSA: Weirdest place... How about in a dream? I have super vivid dreams due to a medication I used to take and I dream about Yunho and Jae very often. If I remember correctly, either the idea for ”Venus in Furs” or ”Show Me Your Teeth” came from a dream. What a messed up head mine is dreaming about stuff like that XD Both of those are pretty hardcore BDSM.

TINA: How much research do you do for your story?
HATTUKISSA: Not much... Honestly I hate doing research, mostly I just make everything up. It's easier for me to imagine a whole new world where things work my way rather than research something.

TINA: What is the easiest part of writing?
HATTUKISSA: Finishing a story? Haha, seriously the only part that's easy about writing is when you're done and you can finally stop thinking about it XD

TINA: What is the hardest part of writing a story?
HATTUKISSA: Getting started... Also if you run out of steam in the middle of a fic and can't get yourself to continue writing. It has happened to me so many times I have countless unfinished stories on my computer.

TINA: The writer’s worst nightmare the dreaded writer’s block.
When is the worst writer’s block you ever had? How did you overcome it?
HATTUKISSA: I have really bad writer's block almost every year... Sometimes nothing gets you going and you just stare at the screen with an empty head. A friend of mine gave me really useful advice just to write whatever comes to mind for 30 minutes straight without looking back and that always does the trick for me! I overthink things so often it's good just to write whatever and it might turn out good. It's easy to keep going from there.

TINA: Any useful tips on how to overcome the writer’s block?
HATTUKISSA: Pretty much already answered this in the previous question~ ;)

TINA: Have you written any collaboration with other author’s? If yes name of the fanfic.
HATTUKISSA: I haven't, I like to work alone.

TINA: How do you describe your writing style? Do you think you have your own personal writing style?
HATTUKISSA: I do have my own style. I'd say it's quite simple and easy to read, minimalistic in a way... And then when it comes to certain stuff like smut it gets super detailed XD

TINA: How do you think you have evolved creatively throughout the years? Do you notice any change in the way you write?
HATTUKISSA: Well the biggest change has been in my drawing skills for sure. I basically started from not knowing how to use photoshop to doing what I do now... It's easier to see the improvement there. My writing honestly hasn't changed that much but I do have more confidence to go larger and write longer stories than I used to before. I don't know for sure though... Maybe my readers are able to tell?

TINA: How did u get the idea of including pictures in your stories?
HATTUKISSA:I can't remember for sure but I think it just came naturally because I did both fanart and fics from the beginning... So combining those too was a natural step for me I guess!

TINA: How long will it take to finish the pictures?
HATTUKISSA: On a good day it takes less time... Then some days I struggle a lot and start over a couple times... I would say anywhere from between 4 to 8 hours.

TINA: What are your thoughts when drawing a picture of yunjae ?like what emotions do the picture should convey..
HATTUKISSA: I don't really think about anything xD I often listen to audiobooks while I draw because I tend to get bored easily unless I'm really into the art I'm creating. I decide what sort of picture I'm going to draw based on what's happening in the fic and then just work around that, trying different things. The picture should reflect their emotions in the story of course ^^

TINA: Are you a professional artist? u draw so well
HATTUKISSA: No, I'm not! XD But I'm a graduated graphic designer and I've had a lot of classical art training so I'd say I'm not a total noob but I'm not a professional either. I still have a lot to learn!

TINA: How important are readers and their comments?
HATTUKISSA: They are everything!! Honestly the feedback I get makes me want to keep going. Without the readers and the comments I probably wouldn't write much. They really mean a lot to me! I love every single reader from the bottom of my heart!

TINA: I have been a silent reader for few months before taking the steps to comment..
Any words for silent readers?
HATTUKISSA: Come out! You don't have to comment every single time, just whenever you feel like it~ Short comments are fine too! Let the authors know if you're liking their stories so they will keep going. We can never have too much fanfiction ;)

TINA: Do you read other yunjae fanfics? If yes name of the fanfic you loved?
HATTUKISSA: Not really anymore... I'm too focused in my own stuff tbh. But my favorite author is Aquariuslover, and ”Damaged” and ”Fragile Essence” are my favorite stories. In fact, I have a Christmas tradition of always re-reading ”Damaged” that time of the year!

TINA: Are you friends with any other author’s?
HATTUKISSA: Yeah, though I think many of them don't write anymore sadly.

TINA: How do you make your stories standout when there are heaps of other stories with similar plot lines?
HATTUKISSA: I don't think my stories have similar plot lines to other fics at all. Also, I'm the only one who also draws for their fics so I don't think standing out was ever a problem for me.

TINA: Has anyone stole your story and published under their name?
HATTUKISSA: Not really, but they have been posted to other sites a couple times which I don't like.

TINA: Thoughts on others stealing your work?
HATTUKISSA: It would suck of course!

TINA: How do you manage your time between your daily activities and updating stories?
HATTUKISSA: Honestly it can be pretty stressful. I'm a person who struggles a lot under pressure so for that reason I always finish writing my stories before I start posting them. I also don't trust myself to always finish my stories so I have to complete the entire thing before I post. Then during the week before posting, I make the fanart to go with it. Drawing can be super time-consuming sometimes.

TINA: DO you have any favorite time of the day to write stories?
HATTUKISSA:In the morning! I'm always the most productive in the morning for some reason.

TINA: So tells us why are we so interested to read these taboo topics when it comes to yunjae?
HATTUKISSA : I'm a really open minded person so I think pretty much anything can be hot if it's written well. Also, many things can be super sexy and hot in a fantasy world that aren't okay in real life... I think there's nothing wrong with fantasizing about even the worst things as long as you keep real life and fantasy separate if it's something that can hurt people. Though I would be lying if I said some of the extreme stuff I wrote I wouldn't enjoy in real life as well ^^'

TINA: How difficult or easy is writing smut?
HATTUKISSA:It's always been easy for me, never had a problem with it! Though I have been writing smut from a very young age...

TINA: Do you blush or get embarrassed while writing smut?
HATTUKISSA: Nope, I'm too old for that and wrote too many sex scenes in my life so far, haha. I only get horny o_o But sometimes when I re-read the stories I wrote a while ago I go ”did I really write this? How did I have the guts to write this?” if something is really extreme.

TINA: How do you write the sex scene? What is the inspiration?
HATTUKISSA: I just go for it! The story, plot and the characters influence how it's going to be. It needs to reflect the characters in the fic!

TINA: Have you ever watched GV before writing a smut scene? (U can choose to ignore this if u doesn’t want to answer)
HATTUKISSA: No, I actually can't stand porn. I never watch it. My imagination is more than enough to provide me with an endless supply of smut!

TINA: Has any family member or friends have ever walked on you while writing a sex scene?
HATTUKISSA: Many times, I write so often! But I just click the window away that's all... It's not like they can see what's on the screen without getting close. It's the drawing part that can be tricky haha!

TINA: Thoughts after writing your first ever sex scene?
HATTUKISSA:I wrote my first sex scenes when I was like 12 so I totally can't remember. Of course it was super innocent ”they fell into bed and touched each other” kind of stuff, nothing extreme, but somehow it just gradually progressed from there to where I am now haha!

TINA: What is the secret of writing a sex scene that turns on your readers?
HATTUKISSA: Good question... I think for me it's just focusing on what turns me on and hoping the readers will feel the same. I don't think about it that much, I mostly write the sex scenes in a way that appeals to me personally and luckily it has worked so far~ I'm not embarrassed to get super detailed either.

TINA: Still writing or you stopped now?
HATTUKISSA: Still writing~

TINA: Future yunjae projects?
HATTUKISSA: Unfortunately they're all secrets! I don't really talk about my future projects anymore as I'm afraid I'm going to jinx it... It has happened a couple of times in the past when I talked about a story before hand on twitter and then couldn't finish it o_o So not telling~

TINA: Have you anytime in future have plans on deleting your journal?
HATTUKISSA: I don't think I will ever delete my journal, even if at some point in time I might stop writing. The stories will still be there for people to enjoy.

TINA: Any words for the readers?
HAATUKISSA: I hope you guys continue to read and support my stories! Your feedback really means the world to me. Also, don't be afraid to tell me what type of story/genre you'd like from me next.

STAY TUNED FOR PART 3
