summer update

Sep 15, 2013 20:15

I just finished reorganizing my yarn collection, which sounds very orderly and perhaps you imagine I have some sort of fancy yarn room or perhaps yarn cellar with skeins and balls of yarn all neatly placed on a huge system of shelves and boxes but its really more like I am a giant flame-haired squirrel and I moved yarn around to different yarn caches that I have hidden away in my room - though this time I made an effort to label some of it (one says CATLOAF YARN) and get all the dragon yarn in one place and put all the weird yarn I inherit from my oma back into its dubious bag which is actually one of those weird square zippered vinyls that you get a duvet in.

So I thought - HOW ABOUT ORGANIZING MY THOUGHTS AND UPDATING THIS LJ FOR ONCE, EH? EH?

First, thank you to 4bdnsn0wflake and villavengore for the birthday wishes that you sent me on Aug 1st - yes I didn't even post on my birthday! LOL And can you believe I turned 30?? Am I an adult yet??? LOL One of the reasons I didn't get a chance to post on my birthday was on that day, I was actually on my way to Calgary for six days, mainly to go to a friend's wedding but also to see as many relatives as I could in such a short time, mostly by having my aunt pick me up and take me to the family cottage where we had a little family reunion complete with steak and an assortment of hilarious drinks:

Another fine product of Holland, let me pour you the super-rich drink of my people :X

The wedding I was going to was supposed to be at the Calgary Zoo for the reception, but due to all the flooding and the fact that the zoo is right beside the river that flooded, they had to move the reception to a regular hotel but it was still lots of fun, plus I got to hang out with some old highschool friends of mine and we had a bunch of time to kill between the wedding ceremony and the reception so we decided to treat ourselves to milkshakes and bacon (the BEST BACON I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE OMG) and then go play minigolf while in our wedding finery - the short order cook at the diner shouted to us "YOU GUYS LOOK LIKE YOU CAME FROM A MOVIE SET!" lol

For the wedding, I decided to get my hair lightened as light as I've ever had it:

And then a few weeks later I set my hair on fire for FanExpo:

I had my hairdresser help put in the dye so the gradient would turn out properly (I'm not calling it ombre because that is a silly word invented by Pinterest) and I am really happy with how it turned out. People give me compliments anytime I am out in public (I had four separate waitresses sneak over to whisper compliments while I was out to dinner about a week ago LOL) and it's fading pretty nicely, though strangely the red is fading slowest of all - go figure ha ha.

Fanexpo!!! I know I usually make a post all about FanExpo, but really this year was much like other years, most notable differences is that I didn't have a dedicated helper for the whole weekend, which is because it's harder to find someone who can do the whole convention ever since the convention decided to become four days long and run from Thurs to Sunday. I had the most wonderful skwerly helping me out on the Thurs, which was fantastic to have someone keep me company while I'm setting up my table and getting me some DELICIOUS food and just being awesome in general :) Sales were slow but steady without any of the rush times for sales that I'm used to for Friday or Saturday, but overall I did better than I expected, especially since I had only a few plushies (can't make enough to keep up with demand, honestly!), though I did have a giant pile of BIG FAT BUMBLEBEES - even some pink and green ones! LOL

You wanna see my bees? Then check out this REALLY COOL VIDEO WHERE I WAS FEATURED AS AN ARTIST ALLEY CRAFTER!!

I am after the 2:35 mark if you wanna skip to just me :X I DIDN'T KNOW I SOUND LIKE THAT OUTSIDE OF MY HEAD BTW
The guy in the video there, he interviewed me for about five mins, most of what I said didn't make it into that clip but I still really appreciate his efforts, it was awesome to be featured and he also gave people links to my etsy store and stuff :D

OH and the last thing I did for the summer (though I know it's not technically fall until the Autumn Equinox, I usually think of summer being over in Sept) was go to the CNE and then the next day, I went to see DEPECHE MODE!!! :D :D :D

Even though our seats were better than I expected and we could actually see the stage decently, I don't have any decent photos of the concert itself because my smartphone is absolute balls at low-light photography and I am trying to get the few videoclips I recorded just for the sound to be converted to AVI so I can share them but haven't had a chance to do it yet. BUT there are some really great photos and reviews of the show that other people did!

I had an amazing time, Depeche Mode was in top form, the lighting and stage effects were understated and somehow very fitting, there were a few treats like Martin performing "But Not Tonight" and overall it was just what I've come to expect and treasure from DM when you see them live - they give their all and they are FANTASTIC! :D

If any of my friends are still out there and still read their flist feed, thanks for sticking around, I'm always around even if you don't see me post or reply much :)
