Since last weekend, I've been feeling kinda sick. I've had a horrible headache since last Friday and I thought I was getting a sinus infection or ear infection or something. It had gotten worse as the week went on, and I just felt generally sick but in a vague way so I didn't know if I was getting worse or even what it might be.

I'm used to having headaches, I get them a lot. And normally I don't take anything for it because I don't want to add to the other medication that I'm taking daily for allergies, asthma, PCOS. But these recent headaches were bad enough for me to buy the rapid-release tylenol and I've been taking at least one dose a day since Friday.

I went to the Health Center today and they checked me out and found that I have absolutely no sign of ear infection or sinus infection. So I talked with the doctor about the general pattern of my headaches. I do tend to get them frequently and when I do, they stick around for days. Apparently, it's not normal when you have a headache that lasts for 3 or more days. See, I just thought that was normal from time to time since when I get a headache, that's pretty much the experience that I have. So between the duration of my headaches and the fact that they do seem to be caused by light sometimes or made worse by light which is a classic migraine symptom... the doctor says that I have migraines. I'd always wondered because of the light sensitivity thing, but I thought that they'd have to be worse some how to qualify as a migraine. For instance, I've never really had the nausea or experienced an "aura" before a headache coming on.

So anyway, I now have a prescription for Fioricet. Let me tell you, it has really done the trick. For the first time since Friday I feel completely better, completely healthy. And I'm even sitting here in my room with the overhead light on! Fioricet is the kind of thing that you take when you're suffering from a migraine or right when it starts to come on. I might end up having to take an everyday regulatory medication, but I don't know yet. The doctor wants me to try using Fioricet and keep track of how many migraines I get over a month and if the number is high, then we'll talk more about medication.

So I called my Mom and my Dad to tell them about this. Mom knew what I was talking about since she's started having hormonally induced migraines from time to time, which apparently is pretty common because of the fluctuation of hormone levels when you get older. And I'm talking to Dad, and he asks me what medication they prescribed. Knowing Dad, I figured that he would hear what it was and have some opinion on it (like... it'll cause cancer/seizures/horrendous side effects/ebola, and only the last in that list is an exageration...) but instead he says, "Oh yeah, I used to take something like that for my migraines." And then he launches right into talking about how his migraines were and how the medication worked for him. The thing is... I never knew that he had migraines! If I'd know that both of my parents have them, then I probably would have seriously considered the possibility sooner. Dad is so bad about telling me his medical history.

Anyway, that is the excitement from my day.
