For the rest of the day Sungmin did a very good job ignoring Donghae. Every time the vampire made a move to speak to him, the angel would just brush him off or leave. By now Donghae was frustrated as hell. To clear his mind, he decided to go out a feed. But just like every night, nothing satisfied his thirst. He needed Sungmin more than he knew.
Donghae sat on the edge of a building, peering down at the calm night life below. It was nearly midnight and he had fed three times, yet nothing. He sighed to himself. “Why do I even bother?” He asked himself. “Sungmin is the only one whose blood will satisfy me.” He growled, punching a nearby statue. The broken pieces crumbled to the city street beneath.
He let out a long sigh, one more of defeat than anything else. What if he was really falling in love with Sungmin? The fact that he was also a man and not a woman meant nothing to Donghae. The physical and psychological attraction he felt was far too strong. But why did he deny these feelings so?
The last time he fell in love, not only was his heart broken, but he was turned into some horrid creature. Being a vampire for so long, you start to lose any fear you have. Why should you be afraid when everything was already afraid of you? But maybe, Donghae really was afraid of something.
Maybe he was afraid of opening up his heart again and letting someone in. After Jessica he swore to never love again. How could this angel do such a thing to him? How is it that Sungmin was able to melt the ice that surrounded his heart? That’s just one of the many questions that bombarded his mind. All seemingly with no answer.
Mainly all he could do was accept it. Accept the fact that he really was in love. For a moment there, Donghae actually believed that - believed what his brother, even his own heart had told him. But being stubborn was in his nature. And like always, he ignored it.
By the time Donghae had returned to the mansion, all of the lights were pretty much out. Which meant Taehyun was gone, and Hyukjae had gotten home just some time ago. He knew his angel would be asleep by now, so that talk he thought of earlier would just have to wait. He walked inside and up to his room, pulling off his coat and shirt as he did so. He slipped off his shoes as he made his way towards the bed. And sure enough his angel was asleep.
Donghae watched as the angel shivered from the cold in his sleep. It looks like he had fallen asleep on top of the bed sheets while reading a book. He shook his head, scooping Sungmin into his arms and pulling back the covers. He laid him down on the bed, feeling the warmth of the angel’s body leave him. He climbed into bed shortly after and instantly Sungmin subconsciously moved towards him. The vampire couldn’t help but smile lightly.
It was morning of the next day and Sungmin found himself sitting in at the dining room table alone. He wasn’t sure where Hyukjae was. But Donghae had written him a note saying he’d return in the evening. But the angel kept telling himself that he didn’t care. When deep down, he wished Donghae had never left. He waited for his food to be brought out when he wondered what Taehyun was up to. He debated with himself on going to look for the vampire, or staying away from him.
The person to walk through the doors of the dining hall, however, took him by complete surprise. In all her fake blond glory, the woman from the other day walked into the room. She flipped her hair and gave Sungmin a smile but inside it made him flinch. The smile felt icy and harsh. She pulled out the chair, sitting next to him. Her smile widened as she turned to him - he could see the white ivory of her fangs.
“Why, hello there. I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced.” She said in a cheerful voice. Sungmin couldn’t understand how this woman could act so fake around him. “My name is Jung Jessica.” She held out her hand and he couldn’t help but eye it in suspicion. How the hell did this lady even get in here?
Against Sungmin’s better judgment, he grasped the woman’s hand and gave it a shake. “Um hi Miss Jessica-sshi. My name’s Lee Sungmin.” He introduced himself. That was all he said as an awkward silence clouded around the two of them. He let her hand go and stared at the dinner mat in front of him. Questions were flying around his head. What if Donghae let Jessica come back to the mansion? What if he never left and was just here all along with her? What if-
“You wouldn’t have happened to know where Donghae has run off to, would you?” As she asked the question she looked on ahead, deciding on examining her nails rather than keeping eye contact. The angel looked at her, slightly confused why she would be asking him that.
“You don’t know?” He asked her, slightly bewildered. If she’s asking where Donghae is at does this mean she’s here uninvited. She gave him a slightly annoyed look but it was covered with a smile in a quick flash. She put her arm around him.
“You see my dear Sungmin, I do not.” She answered, sounding most truthful. “If I had known I would not have come here and asked you, would I now?” Well she did have a point there. Sungmin shook his head no. An unhappy frown tugged at her red lips.
“I’m sorry Miss Jessica-sshi, but I don’t know where Donghae hyung went. When I woke this morning he was not there and he left me a note telling me he had to leave. But he didn’t tell me where.” Sungmin explained. He watched as Jessica sighed deeply and removed her arm from around him.
‘Figures he wouldn’t be here.’ She thought to herself. She suddenly found herself quite unhappy and bored to say the least. She wanted to find Donghae and she wanted to make up and play of course. But in turn her boy toy wasn’t even home. Her attention shifted to Sungmin who, at the moment, found his place mat quite interesting. She smirked. ‘He may be a human, but damn is he a cute one.’ She slowly leaned closer to him, placing a hand on his thigh.
Instantly Sungmin’s eyes widened and he turned bright red. He stiffened in his seat a bit as he slowly turned his head towards Jessica. She was moving in closer than he would have liked. He tried to scoot away, but was unsuccessful for the fact that he would have fallen out of his chair. “Um M-miss J-Jessica-sshi? Don’t y-you think you’re a b-bit too c-close?” He asked, stuttering his sentence.
She batted her eyelashes flirtatiously as her hand began to slowly move up and down his thigh. She leaned in, her breath ghosting the shell over his ear - causing Sungmin to shiver uncomfortably.
“Too close? Are you sure?” She whispered, seductively into his ear. “Wouldn’t you rather have me…closer?” By now her hand was running up his clothed chest.
Sungmin didn’t want to be rude and push this lady off him, but he didn’t want her touching him either. Hell, this was a violation of his personal space. He closed his eyes tightly and began to lean away from her the best he could - hoping she would take a hint or something.
Fortunately for him, some higher force at work must have really felt sorry for him. “Yah! What the hell do you think you are doing?” Sungmin jumped at the sound of Hyukjae’s deep and strong voice. Jessica sat up straight again, removing her hand and looked at the vampire with an annoyed look on her face. She was not pleased with this interruption.
She scowled, standing up and placing her hands on her hips. Sungmin looked up to see Hyukjae walk in from the hallway and up to the table, standing only a few feet from Jessica. “You have some nerve. Who gave you the right to just barge in and interrupt someone so rudely?” She asked, indignantly. She clearly wasn’t happy - probably the fact that the wrong Lee brother returned had something to do with it. Either way she was pissed and was letting Hyukjae know that.
Hyukjae rolled his eyes. Was she forgetting whose house she was trespassing in? He took in a deep breath - the last thing he wanted to do was lose his cool while Sungmin was around. “Sungmin-ah, go head up to Donghae’s room, okay?” He instructed the angel. Sungmin just nodded, getting up without a word and leaving the room. Jessica scowled again. She still loathed the idea of a human sharing a bed with her property. Hyukjae turned his attention back to her and frowned. “I want you to get the hell out of my house.”
If she was anyone else, the cold, harshness of his voice would be enough to make fear run through her veins. But she was Jung Jessica; a Vampire. Barely anything bothered her. However, she did find Hyukjae intimidating. Even when he and Donghae were human, he didn’t like her. His feelings towards her only went downhill since then. But she stood her ground. “No. I’m here to see Donghae and I will not leave until I see him.”
Hyukjae rubbed his temples - his patience was thinning. “Donghae is not even here, you babo. I’m sure you asked Sungmin where he was, and I’m sure he gave you the same answer. Not that we are all on the same page. Get. The. Fuck. Out.” Venom laced every word he spoke. He didn’t see himself as being harsh. This woman proved to be a danger to Sungmin and he was not going to sit around and allow her to be anywhere near him.
What the two of them didn’t know was that Sungmin didn’t head back to Donghae’s room. He was watching from behind one of the large French doors of the dining hall. The vampires were too occupied with one another to take any notice of his presence. He watched as Jessica’s expression changed to one of fury. “I will not leave.” She pressed on. “I will not give up Donghae that easily. And to prove it I will kill that filthy human if I have to. Donghae belongs to me!”
In an instant Hyukjae had Jessica pinned to the wall by her neck - her body dangling a few inches off the ground. She clawed at his hand relentlessly. Hyukjae knew exactly who she was talking about. And that pissed him off. Human or angel, he was not to be touched. “Do not ever threaten his life again. That human you speak of means more to me - to Donghae, than you will ever. Neither of us will allow you to lay a single hand on him. Do so and I will rip you apart until there is nothing left but your blackened soul and then not even Hell will want you.”
At the same time Jessica and Sungmin’s eyes widened. This was a side of Hyukjae he really didn’t wish to see. Before either of them could notice him, he hustled off to Donghae’s room. Jessica, for the first time, was actually afraid of Hyukjae. An ice cold fear crept up her skin. And he could see it in her eyes. He let her go and she fell to the ground, her hand going straight to rub her sore neck. He glared down at her and without another word she scrambled up and ran out the door.
Hyukjae sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He was more than relieved to see that woman gone. Donghae’s personal life is causing him way too much stress. And they weren't even his problems. He was going to have a talk with his brother; because this was getting out of hand.
