1.Why K-pop? Why did you start listening to K-pop? What woke your interest in it?

I started with watching Japanese drama… Then I listened to J-pop. In blogs talking about Japan I also found a lot of information about Korean music so I decided to try it. Now I listen to both on an equal level.

2.What's different in K-pop compared to other music? Music itself? Music videos? Live performances? etc.

For me there aren’t many differences. It’s basically Pop which is the style I like. The codes are different though but that’s not only in music, it’s just cultural.

3.Which group or artist is your favorite? Why?

That’s a tough one. I honestly can’t answer. I like a lot of them, with a tendency to boy’s bands from commercial agencies. I’ll cite in example Super Junior, Shinee, Exo, Fx, Miss A, 2PM, B2st… I could go on.

4.Has K-pop affected you or your life? How?

Well yeah… I pretty much tried to make every single friend of mine listen to it (and quite a bunch liked it). I got interested in a country I didn’t know. I started to learn Japanese (which is related given my own history).

5.How would you describe K-pop to someone completely unknown to it?

‘It’s Korean Pop’
Sorry to say but it’s nothing more. Then I get on showing and explaining some differences but that’s of my explanation every single time.

6.Are you interested in other Korean things? Food? Dramas? Movies? TV-shows? Clothing? History? Language? etc.

Yeah sure. I’m looking for a Korean restaurant here in Brussels to try the food, I watch a lot of dramas and some movies, I watch TV-shows but mostly for Idols.
I’m more into Japanese clothing history and language but I still am interested in the Korean ones.

7.Is it only listening to music or is there something else in K-pop as a subculture? Mannerisms? Dressing? etc.

There is the whole culture behind it. Like you may find the girl’s skirt to be really short (like is there even a skirt?) but you kind of never see their shoulders. Well that’s because in Korea, it’s provocative to show your shoulders but not your legs. That’s cultural, not only K-pop.

8.Is there something else you want to tell us? Please do!

Though I’m more into Japanese culture for some things, I really got attracted to Korean music more, because there are more bass (in my opinion).
To me K-pop isn’t just music. It’s an opportunity to discover Korean culture (or just a part of it). You need to search to find some pieces of information but listening to that music or any world music means you open your world. You suppress your boundaries and you embrace the multiculturalism.
