After reading through Miss Blanc's book on plants and consulting with a gentleman florist in town, I have come to the conclusion that my sunflowers were dying from a combination of not enough light, bad soil and too much water. I have readjusted my technique and have even included a little bit of fertilizer on the recommendation of the florist. It ( Read more... )

Are sunflowers your favorite kind of flower? They seem so common, less exotic than what others seem to usually like.

Yes they are. My mother used to keep them in our home, when I was young. I always seemed to have a bunch or two in my bedroom. I suppose, when she died, I took over their care.

Oh, not to worry... She's been gone for a while now... So, whenever I see them I think of her and I'm reminded of her. It makes me smile.
