so my dad called Brandi Schuman in res life and then emailed her too....after all said and done, these are the emails...
(long story short if you don't want to read, my dad is pushing hard core to get me off campus and Brandi Schuman told him that might be the best option right now)
Dear Ms Schuman,
My daughter, Lizzy, has contacted me about the mix up regarding
living arrangements for next Fall. I would like to make you aware of
a couple things concerning her situation. Lizzy works for the college
in the Admissions office and will be living in an apartment near
campus all summer while she works full time.
She will turn 21 years old this July 2, and start the Fall semester
as a Junior. I understand that Albion has developed a policy for
students living on campus, and I agree that 17 and 18-year-old
students benefit from it. I would argue, however, that someone with
Lizzy's maturity would more likely chafe in a dorm setting.
As I understand it, Lizzy was promised an apartment in an approved
building. With that in hand she did not pursue any other
arrangements. The apartment complex was mistakenly overbooked, and
now she is being told that she will have to live in a dorm. I write
this in hope that another solution can be found, perhaps allowing her
to remain living in the apartment she will rent this summer. I put
two older girls through college, and neither was forced to live in a
dorm as upper class-men at Hope or GVSU.
There is a financial aspect to this situation. I have another child
entering Albion College in the Fall as a freshman. We're happy and
proud that Sean has been accepted to the Prentiss M. Brown Honors
Institute. We are not a rich family. Having two students at Albion is
very costly, and I was counting on Lizzy's cost structure to shrink a
bit when the Board part of her tuition package was eliminated. If
Lizzy has to move back into the dorm, and pay the Board charges, I'm
very concerned about being able to send both kids there.
A simple mistake was made. Please don't make Lizzy pay for it.
Sincerely,
Mt

her response:
Matt,
Thanks for your email. This is a difficult situation for us to be in and I can assure you that we are doing what we can to make it right for all parties involved. Most of your concerns can/will need to be addressed by Ryan Blevins who is the Director for Residential Life. I will continue working with Ryan to come up with housing options on campus (which is our desired outcome) but Ryan works directly with those students who request to live off campus and will be able to give you a better idea of that possibility.
I appreciate your understanding in this situation and only hope that other parents are as willing to work with us as you have been.
Please let me know of anything else I may be able to help you with or any other questions you may have.
Thank you,
Brandi
then their phone conversation apparently led to being off board and being off campus and which could be done....
ohh res life, you STRESS ME OUT!
