Not anytime particularly soon, though. He's still too young to be neutered, and you can't introduce two unaltered bunnies. But once he's old enough I'll get him fixed and then I'm going to talk to a local rabbit shelter to see if they've got any little dwarf bunny babes to try introducing Alonso to. I've been reading a lot of stuff about how important companionship is to bunnies, and how much better they do if they live in pairs or trios. Apparently, other than the medical costs, it's not supposed to cost that much more to care for two than one, and given how small dwarf rabbits are that certainly is understandable.
Given how busy I can get I'd like for Alonso to have a friend to keep him company when I'm too busy to give him as much attention as he needs. I certainly wouldn't mind having another little furry friend around.
I've got to make an appointment to see a rabbit vet. I should have got him a check-up when I first got him but I was busy and still learning about rabbits. I need to make sure he's doing okay. I figure I'll talk to the vet about getting him a playmate, see what they think. When I got Alonso they told me he was pretty outgoing, so I think he'd do pretty well being introduced to another rabbit. It took him a while to get used to me, but when I was there he took to my mom and my brother immediately. I think because he could see that I trusted these people that they were safe. Hopefully the same principle will apply when I try introducing him to another rabbit.
He's grown so much since I got him. I don't expect him to get a lot bigger, but he's a young rabbit so of course he's growing fast right now. He's eating a lot more, too.
He's such a sweetie. And curious about EVERYTHING. He rubs his chin on everything. (It's a bunny way of marking territory.) It's like "Hm, this is mine. This is also mine. I don't know what this is, but it's mine too. I don't even know if I want this but it's mine. Just in case someone else comes along and tries to take it, just for future reference it's mine. I rubbed this already, but in case you forgot it's mine. By the way, you're mine. This wall is mine. So is this floor. So is your leg." He's hilarious. And such a fast runner! He gets going at mach speed! I took a video the other day, but I haven't put it up on youtube yet. I've got more pictures to put up eventually, too.
He's just run into some difficulties with his cardboard box in his cage. He's pushed it into his favorite sleeping corner and he can't get it out.
Oh, no, he got it. I thought he would.
I need to buy some dog gates or baby gates. My cardboard-box-gate-system is less than stellar. It works, but I have to move the boxes out of the way to walk though the house. If I get proper gates I think I might build him a cardboard playhouse type thing.
I've got to work on litter-training him as well. The problem is that bunny litter boxes are too big for dwarf rabbits, so I've got to get a small baking pan. He's fine in his cage, but I need to have somewhere for him to go while he's out running around. (I can't keep cleaning up after him.)
Overall, I think I'm doing at least a satisfactory job of being a bunny owner. I can handle one bunny; and by the time he's old enough to be neutered and introduce to someone new, I think I'll have seen whether or not I could care for two bunnies.
