-chapter six-
Mianhae, my love.
The air was tense, but Sungmin allowed Heechul to hold him in his arms. He just couldn’t comprehend it. Heechul and Yesung? When did that happen? His insecurity was getting worse. “I… don’t know if I can trust you any more.” He said it almost inaudibly. Heechul didn’t bother to reply. He just sat there with Sungmin in his arms, stroking his hair. A few minutes passed and Sungmin’s sobbing ceased. He wiped away his tears and sat up. “If you want to be with Yesungie hyung,” he announced. “then I am okay with it. I want you to be happy, hyung and if that’s with Yesungie hyung… then that’s the way it is.” His voice sounded clear and crisp, but his face was a different story. His eyes were red and swollen from the crying and his face was pulled into a pout. “Do you want this to end, Sungminah? The choice is yours.” Sungmin thought for a little bit longer and finally replied with a quiet voice. “Yes.”
The next week was hard for Heechul. He spent most of the time sulking and whenever anyone tried to approach him, he would snap at them and storm off. He hadn’t expected Sungmin to say ‘yes’; in fact, he thought that Sungmin would fight to stay with him. He was proven wrong.
Siwon heard about the kiss and immediately there was an uproar. He confronted Yesung. “Hyung,” he said very gently trying not to show his anger. “Why would you hurt Heechul hyung and Sungmin hyung like that? What did they do to you?” Yesung didn’t answer. He just picked up his cup of coffee and walked away. He didn’t feel as though he needed to answer Siwon’s questions. He wouldn’t understand anyway.
Sungmin started to spend a lot of time with Ryeowook throughout the next week. He didn’t realise how much fun his dongsaeng could be. Although he was still upset about the “incident” he still managed to play his games and laugh a lot. He couldn’t bear to look at Yesung, however and had nightmares about the kiss. What bothered him the most was that Heechul didn’t seem to try to get away at all. Ryeowook noticed Sungmin’s sadness and tried to make him laugh by acting silly. It generally worked. Towards the end of the week, Ryeowook (under the advisement of Yesung) decided that it was time to tell Sungmin how he felt. He pulled his hyung aside and told him that they needed to have a serious talk.
“What’s the matter, Ryeowookah? You’re not dying on me, are you!?” Sungmin was genuinely concerned. He pulled Ryeowook into a quick tight hug and let go to face him. “You’re not allowed to die!” Ryeowook chuckled softly. “I’m not dying, hyung… but it’s still something important - well at least it is to me.” He felt his hyung lean against his shoulder. Yesung had told him that short and sweet was the right way to do it. Any other way and it just got messy. “I like you, Lee Sungmin.” He said it quietly but loud enough for Sungmin to hear. Sungmin sat up. He looked at Ryeowook and smiled kindly. “I like you too, Wookah~ but what was the important thing?” Sungmin had thought that Ryeowook had made his remark as just a friend. “That was it, hyung… I like you. I really like you… as more than a friend.” he added for good measure. Sungmin laughed. “No, you don’t! Since when? Stop playing, Ryeowookah!” He giggled and said in a mocking voice. “I really like you as more than a friend! - don‘t joke about things like that Wookah~ I might actually take you seriously! Anyway, you know that I still love Heechulie hyung… I‘m just… waiting for him… to get over Yesungie hyung.” Ryeowook sat there silently. So many thoughts were running through his head, but he couldn’t keep up. “Goodbye, Sungmin.” He got up and left. A bewildered Sungmin was left behind. What had gotten into him?
Ryeowook couldn’t take the rejection. He had started taking medication a few weeks ago, to cope with the stress he was feeling not only from being in Super Junior, but also for being in love with Sungmin. This time, he took more than was prescribed to him to take at one time. I chose the wrong person to fall in love with… He dropped onto the bedroom floor, lifeless.
