hmmm.... I think my every meal is under $10 (serves 4) but they all consist of Thai and Chinese dishes eaten with rice. I don't know your preference but if you have a certain Thai or Chinese dishes you like I can help with the recipes. My most favorite (if you're not afraid of calories and no concerned about nutrition LOL) takes only 2 minutes to make, taste better than instant noodle and probably cost less than $5:

1) Thai omelette + white jasmine rice - just stir the eggs, season with a bit of soy sauce add a little of one(or more) of the following ingredients if you prefer: ground pork, chopped prawns, tomatoes etc. then deep fry it until it's golden and crispy. It is just heavenly with rice. (http://www.realthairecipes.com/recipes/thai-style-omelette/ They use fish sauce but I prefer soy sauce with no pepper XD)

2) Fried egg with rice - Just crack and egg into a deep fry pan with lots of oil, when it's cooked, chop it up briefly, mix with cooked rice and add soy sauce to taste. Way too simple but very addictive XD

This one made me smile. Some things are universal I think. My mother made fried egg with rice and soy for us all the time. I love it too.

The Thai omelet sounds really good too. We had Western-style omelets the other night, and I was wondering what other kinds of flavors I could adapt that the husband would like. (I use mostly egg whites though and only a couple of yolks so it's a little healthier.)

I'd love to try making some Thai dishes. We're addicted to jasmine rice (I buy it bulk in a huge sack). I've tried making Pad Thai and failed (the recipe I used sucked. ^^;), though I made a good Thai chicken soup before. Got a good recipe with shrimps or fish? :)
