Glad you had fun. Team building is defiantly an experience. Ahh the memories!

You got real lucky with Pep! How exciting! He's probably one of my favorite faculty members. He's an anatomist so he'll be a great asset to PBL for the first block. He's very kind, caring, and approachable. You'll have a blast with him.

Must have books:
Pathology: Pathalogical Basis of Veterinary Disease by McGavin-- It has everything you'll need, lots of color photos, and a normal physiology/anatomy section at the front of each chapter. It's a bit pricey but worth every penny

Pharm: Quicklook Pharmacology-- it's the quick and dirty pharm reference. It also group the drugs by classes which Dr. Burr will like. Plus it's only $50ish. Don't get Plumb, it's free only though VIN.

Anatomy: You'll need Miller's Anatomy of the dog. The bookstore sells two types, the big red book and the smaller blue Guide to the Dissection of the dog. A lot of us bought both and brought the smaller one into anatomy lab as a reference. If you only buy one I'd recommend just the smaller one. It has the real "meat" of anatomy (haha.) The large one is good but honestly it's a bit too detailed.
Dyce Veterinary Anatomy-- it has small and large animal anatomy, which you'll need. I don't know how people get through the first two years without this book. You'll defiantly need a large animal anatomy text. Unfortunately Miller's is just the dog.

Physiology: You have a choice between Gyton, Boron, or Cunningham. A lot of people have Guyton and like it, but it's a human text. Boron is likewise a human text but Crocker (the physiology) swears by it. It's a great book to have if you enjoy physiology, but it's much more detailed then they will EVER test you on (regardless of what Crocker will lead you to believe). Cunningham is a great book. A lot of people use it and it's a good basic level physio. I'd recommend start with Cunningham, then get Boron or Guyton (but not both) if you feel like you need more detail.

Histology: Dellman's Veterinary Histology. It's basically a must have. You'll need a histo reference. It has nice drawing of what you'll see on the slides and has photo images on the CD. A lot of people also buy Ross's Histology. It's a human text but we're all basically the same on the microanatomy level. I have both but mostly used Dellman's.

Internal Med: Ettinger's Internal Medicine. I somehow got by without owning this book first year but I really needed it for second year. It's a wonderful resource with a lot of great information. You'll need to buy it at some point.

Useful webpages:
www.bu.edu/histology It's a human site but it's beautiful and got me though second year histology
www.vin.com You get free access as a student. It has a bunch of message boards, conference proceedings, and Plumb's Pharmacology is free through them. Go set up an account.
www.ivis.org Free for students. This site has an electronic library of textbooks, conference proceedings, and other nice goodies. I used it a lot first year.
http://vanat.cvm.umn.edu/carnLabs/ WONDERFUL anatomy guide. Check it out.
http://www.merckvetmanual.com/mvm/index.jsp The Merck Manual. It's free online and is a great place to go if you need a quick overview of a disease or condition. Bookmark it.
http://www.vetvideos.com/ I discovered this second year. It has a lot of random goodies.

And don't forget that the library has a lot of great books! A lot of people get carried away rushing out to buy every book they see. If you can survive the hype, just rent what you think you need from the library to try it out. They also have books on reserve.

Thank you so much!!! I've got a good amount used already so that only leaves a few on your list I need to buy newer/online... that makes things much less daunting! They were sending out booklists that had like 30 or 40 book comparisons and it was so overwhelming... this was much easier, thanks :)
