Yesterday I decided that on my lunch break I would walk down to the bookstore and have a light lunch. I had a coconut-lime-almond scone and a London Fog, which is something I have seen nowhere else but is earl grey tea steeped in steamed milk instead of hot water. I've recently found lots of fantasy somewhat annoying because of the general refusal to consider the consequences of the setting. For example - You're writing a story set in your basic feudal society. Do you honestly expect me to believe that life doesn't suck for pretty much everyone regardless of who occupies the fancy chair?

Yeah, that's become a convention of fantasy in itself. That bugs me too.

Especially when you have the young, potentially heroic peasant-stock who are untouched by plague and disease and famine and such.
