Latino Heat

I've started this post half a dozen times now, and I'm still not sure what to say. Last night's RAW was heartwrenching, powerful, and surreal. When Owen died, it sunk in immediately. With Eddie's passing, I'm just sort of numb. The best wrestlers die or get crippled far before their time, and the politics-players and hangers-on persist and become dinosaurs.

I hate that it takes the loss of someone so special to make WWE produce something good and important and lasting. I'd much rather last night's RAW have been horrible and insulting to my intelligence as per their latest efforts if it meant that Eddie was still with us. Watching Benoit break down was too much.

Personally, I'm thankful for being able to allow Eddie to entertain me for his all-too-brief time on this Earth. He was one of the best heels in the biz, but even though he was at his best being bad, you couldn't not like the guy.

I'm thankful for discovering Eddie in WCW and wishing he was in the WWF, which I was loyal to back when such things mattered.

I'm thankful for watching the Radicalz 'invade' Raw, marking out that these talented workers had jumped ship.

I'm thankful for watching Eddie frog-splash Billy Gunn (I believe it was), and being ridiculously creeped-out when his elbow popped out of its socket, making his arm bulge in a wholly gruesome way.

I'm thankful for seeing a moment in time where Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were professional wrestling's world champions.

I'm thankful for being there live when Eddie won his only world title.

Most of all, I'm thankful for being a fan of professional wrestling and of Eddie Guerrero, and for having the opportunity to let this performer, this athlete, entertain me for the past eight years. Thank you, Eddie. Your legacy will continue to live on.
