it's almost ninety degrees in my bedroom right now and i've got that stupid smile on my face for the first time in a while. i hate my job again, in typical summer fashion; it works out well that i think i'm going to get fired next week. i've got a few really good stories about that, all of which require the wild hand gesticulations, facial expressions, and vocal intonations that come free with all the great stories i tell.
the other day i parked next to someone with a lmc sticker on their car. if i had a pen, i would have left a note that said, "i just noticed your sticker and you're awesome." i parked next to them and realized how syracuse i've become. there just isn't enough room to dance around my bedroom here and it hasn't rained in weeks! i miss when my sneakers squished from wading through rainwater 4 days a week. i like my ice cream to come with a swan and my traffic lights upside-down. i like my public libraries to be located in shopping malls and my escalators to lead to nowhere. i miss the intersection where you can only go left, right, left diagonal or right diagonal and each direction has its own turn signal. i miss the leather booths in mcdo's and armed guard in denny's. each of these things is so unnecessary, but it's these that turn an ordinary place into a memorable one.
the day i departed i was given three photos, from just two of those ordinary days that quickly became memorable ones. inspiration doesn't come easily these days, so thanks for those three photos. (i'm looking at them now).
