I want to use the first-time tag because this my first time ever posting, so comments and critique welcome and wanted!

Summary: Liam wishes he were already home for winter break; his boyfriend has a surprise present being delivered to Liam at college.

“That’s it!  Liam, I feel sorry for you that Prof Winters got sick, so your final got delayed and you can’t go home and cuddle with your not-girlfriend that you won’t admit you have, but I can’t take anymore of your angsting!  I’m going for a walk.  When I come back, you better have stopped being all emo’ and destroying that teddy bear.”

With those angry words, Liam’s roommate stormed out of their shared bedroom.  Liam glanced down at the teddy bear he was absentmindedly squeezing while writing the essay component of his Freshman English class.  He brought the bear to his nose and inhaled the spices Diabhidh had put in the sachet hidden amidst its stuffing - cinnamon and nutmeg.  He liked it when his boyfriend smelled of cinnamon, nutmeg and fresh apple pie, with flour in his hair and a smile on his face.  His beloved had promised him apple pie all winter break; apple pie he was supposed to have been enjoying two days ago when he had originally planned to return home.  With a sigh, Liam put the bear back on his desk and continued to revise his essay.

“You missed a comma,” the voice of his boyfriend interrupted his musing.  Liam sighed and rubbed at his eyes.  He must really be tired if he was starting to imagine that Daibhidh was in his dorm room.  He pushed away from his desk and was surprised to feel a familiar weight settle into his lap.

“Surprise, Liam,” the apparition said.

No, this was no sleep-deprived hallucination.  (He definitely wouldn’t have included the uncomfortable feeling of his boyfriend’s walking brace digging into his thigh in his fantasy. He always felt guilt when remembering that his lover was always physically whole in his fantasies. He loved Diabhidh, even with physical limitations, and would love him just the same if Diabhidh could run cross country competitively.)  His boyfriend was truly sitting in his lap and looping his arms around his neck.

“How did you get here?” Liam wondered aloud.

“Mr. Baker had business in the city; he agreed to drop me off on the way.”

“There are no public roads on campus.  Did you walk here?”

Liam could feel the glare.  Of course I walked.  I may be a gimp, but I’m not helpless.  His boyfriend’s glares could communicate a lot in the minute shift of his eyebrows, the tension around his mouth, or the narrowing of his eyes.

“You shouldn’t be walking.  It just snowed, there’s still ice and snow on the ground and the pathways are uneven.  At least tell me you had your cane with you.”

His boyfriend huffed and gestured to the doorway where he had left his cane next to his worn book bag.

“Happy Solstice, Liam,” his Diabhidh said pointedly.

Liam sighed, his worry-fueled anger melting away at the reminder that Diabhidh was visiting him because he wanted to be with Liam, and just maybe be his naughty solstice present.

“I missed you,” Liam replied.  “But you make me worry so much.”

“I missed you too,” he finally answered.  Liam heard the silent we were supposed to be together two days ago. I braved Mr. Baker’s horrendous driving and those bumpy windy roads that jar my leg because I wanted to be with you.

“You are my beloved, my Diabhidh,” Liam murmured into his ear.

He simply leaned forward and hid his face from view in the crook of Liam’s neck.  Okay, we’ve established that we missed each other, now I’m tired, my leg hurts and I need to rest.

Liam smiled as he tossed his textbook and essay on top of his bed before carrying his boyfriend bridal style to his lofted bed.  Liam climbed up himself and arranged his tired boyfriend against his side and under the warm blanket that had been his first solstice present from his boyfriend.  Diabhidh snuffled and burrowed into his side as Liam opened his book to read.

Bobby returned to his room a few hours after he’d left, hoping that Liam was more pleasant company.  Cautiously, he opened the door, and saw Liam sitting on his lofted bed, one hand stroking the long hair visible from the nest of blankets he’d piled next to him and the other hand holding open his textbook.  Bobby was glad Liam’s girl had decided to come visit him. Maybe Bobby’d get some peace - as long as he wasn’t sexiled.
