Summary: Endel wants his marriage proposal to be special... but when every day is an action-packed gunfight with more plot twists than you can shake a stick at, special can be a relative term.

Aria knew something was up because when she opened up the door, Endel was standing on her doorstep in jeans, a white shirt, and a huge, nervous grin on his face.
“Where’s your kevlar vest?” she hissed, dragging him into the safety of the house before leaning down slightly to kiss her shorter, dark haired boyfriend.
“Don’t need it,” he replied, and smiled up at her.
“You didn’t,” she said, because... no, there was no way he could have - but Endel was nodding, ducking his head sheepishly to hide his smile.
“It’s our five year anniversary, so I wanted to get you something special...” he murmered, and tried to look down again before Aria swept him up in another kiss.
“You shouldn’t have,” she scolded, because days like this weren’t cheap. “But I love it. Does this mean I can...” she waved at her jacket, at the bulletproof vest beneath, and her gun holsters.
Endel nodded happily. “I’ll wait here while you change.”

Endel smiled up at Aria from where he was leaning against the hallway wall when she finally breezed down the stairs in a light green summer dress, her loose hair brushing her shoulders.
“You look gorgeous,” he informed her, as Aria pulled on a pair of heels, the hem of her dress swirling about her knees. She liked the height advantage heels gave her in crowded areas, and how they showed off her calves. Also, she had admitted, they made her more intimidating. With days like theirs, every little bit helped.
“I feel so light,” she admitted, practically bouncing with giddy energy as they went out the door. It wasn’t just the special occasion or getting to wear the cute, impractical dress that always sat gathering dust in the back of her closet. It was the freedom of not being armed, of not worrying, not needing to be prepared.
You always light up my world, thought Endel, and offered her his arm.

“So what’s the plan?” Aria asked, as they scrolled aimlessly down the sidewalk in the direction of Endel’s motorbike. Just this morning, he’d driven it off a crumbling bridge, just barely skidding safely to the other side in his sunglasses and leather jacket with the last remaining vial of a life-saving cure for... something. He’d done the retrieve-and-deliver-medicine run so many times, they all blurred together after a while. “How long do we have?”
“Midnight,” Endel said, which was pretty standard. “We’re going to go see a movie called ‘Cannibal Zombie Lepers from Mars’, then go out to dinner at that Italian place you like. And then maybe a walk by the pier, where we first met?” They’d nearly killed each other before they realized they were on the same side.
“That should give us enough time to be home before things go back to normal,” he continued. And for me to ask you to marry me. He grinned up at her. “Does that sound boring enough?”
Aria smiled back, and leaned down to give him a peck on the lips.
“It sounds perfect.” she told him.
