Wrote this in honor of the Halloween just passed! It's a timestamp/sequel for Ollie and Garrith, who got their first snuggle back in 2010 in Curses and Canned Peaches. It's a little... sideways from a traditional snuggle, but I think it's appropriate for the characters.

Hope you are all doing well. Sunday Snuggles was there for me at a time in my life when I needed something to focus on. Something bright and cheerful and sweet. Many thanks.

Cursed to Know
Summary: It's two days before their anniversary. But things get a little off schedule...

Ollie whistled cheerfully, letting his fangs extend in and out to get in some nice pitch changes. It was Jenny’s birthday, so his department was going out after work to Bailey’s Bar & Bloodery for some post-work day libations. Drinks, gossip, and maybe, if he was lucky, some karaoke? Not bad for a Wednesday night.

He spun around in his chair once, just for fun, before leaning over the stone tablet laid out upon his desk, grabbing at the pen behind his ear to take some notes.

A stabbing of pain, punching a high pitched hiss from his clenched teeth, shot through him and then vanished as suddenly as it had come. Ollie collapsed back into his desk chair, shaking. His hand was covered in ink from the pen in his hand, now snapped in two.

Oh. Oh no.

Ollie’s wide eyes darted to the calendar hanging on his cube wall. No. It was too early, he had two more days. Besides, this was different. It was more… intense.

“Oliver?”

Ollie started, and spun around quickly to face his boss.

“Yes!” he squeaked.

Two eyes narrowed. “Are you feeling okay?”

Ollie didn’t trust his voice. “Mmhmm,” he said, nodding enthusiastically.

Now four eyes were fixed on him. Oh dear. She was getting suspicious.

“What happened with your pen?”

“Oh! Haha, just exploded!” Ollie laughed weakly. “So… strange and unexpected.”

“... right. How’s the tablet-”

“Good,” Ollie interrupted quickly. Please leave. “Super good. All under control!” He bared his teeth in what he hoped was a sincere-looking smile.

“We are pleased to hear it,” said his boss. Her eyes left his face and stared off into the distance. “This client is one we’ve had for a long time, as I’m sure you know, and this should be the first in a series of at least twenty pieces. The execs are really looking to knock this one out of the park for them. Let me know if you need any assistance,” she added, one eye briefly flicking back to his face, before turning and walking from his doorway, finally.

Quickly, Ollie spun around in his chair and lunged for the phone, punching in numbers sharply. “Come on, come on,” he whispered impatiently as it rang once… twice…

“Hello,” said Ollie’s most favorite voice in the whole wide world. “You’ve reached-”

“Garrith,” growled Ollie, gripping the phone tightly, “Your curse. This is your curse, right? I’m at work. What- ngggghh-”

Another stab of pain came and went, leaving Ollie panting, his claws embedded in the phone and his chair’s armrest.

“Oh! Oh Ol, is it bad? I’m so sorry - I didn’t think it would, um. Can you make it home? Should I come get you?”

Ollie looked at the clock. It look him about 5 seconds to dematerialize, the blink of an eye and a stifled sneeze to teleport, ten more seconds to rematerialize...

“I can make it,” he said. “You better be there,” he added, in a low voice.

“See you soon,” Garrith whispered.

Ollie smiled softly. “Soon,” he agreed, and put the phone down. Or… tried to. His claws were stuck in the mangled plastic handle. He yanked on it with his other hand, growling at it. He just… needed to send a few emails, put in a time off request. He turned to the laptop, tapping with his free hand and attempting to lever the phone off the other using the edge of his desk. The tablet wasn’t complicated, Lauren could take over for him, he’d just shoot the job summary her way-

Pain arced it’s way up his spine, and Ollie fell out of his chair and onto the floor to writhe for a second, before the moment passed.

A shadow fell across his face. His boss looked down at him, all eight eyes unblinking.

“Get out,” she snapped. “I don’t want you spreading whatever you have to the rest of the office.”

“Right,” agreed Ollie weakly. The phone was now in pieces, so at least his hand was free?

“Ol!” cried Garrith, as Ollie materialized in the entryway, moving forward for a big hug.

Ollie did not want a hug.

“You!” growled Ollie, shoving Garrith back forcefully, slamming him into the closet doors. “Garrith, I know you love me, but during the workweek? My boss saw me! All her eyes definitely could not miss the state that I’m in! It’s inappropriate for the workplace!”

Garrith ducked his head shyly. “I don’t think curses really take that into consideration,” he muttered, looking up at Ollie through his eyelashes. And oh, his cheeks were blushing a deep, blood red.

Ollie felt his heartbeat start to pound faster.

“I wanted to surprise you on our anniversary,” Garrith continued, voice low, “Dinner and flowers. We’ve got a reservation - but I guess this curse kinda let things out of the bag a little early. So. Um.”

And then Garrith got down on one knee.

“Ol, I knew from our third date that you were special,” he said, staring into Ollie’s eyes. “And the better I’ve gotten to know you, the more special you’ve become. To me. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and when I woke up this morning with you by my side, I just knew. You’re everything to me, and I love you so much.” Garrith paused, and took a deep breath. “Ollie, would you take my heart as yours, and give me yours to keep?”

“Yes,” breathed Ollie, torn between romantic delight and wanting. “Garrith, yes, why aren’t you kissing me, you-”

Garrith launched himself across the entryway to collide straight into Ollie, kissing him through the next shudder of pain that lanced it’s way through his body.

“You love me so much,” Ollie slurred, a bit dazed. He could taste blood on his lips. “You wouldn’t like it, being curse-bound... but I wish you could know like I know. How much I love you. You would scream.”

“I know,” Garrith assured him, and licked the blood away. “Curse or no curse, I know.”
