mr. school of music (v. 5)

So I took place in the "Mr. School of Music" contest tonight and actually managed to win 5th prize. Prizes were: free burrito from Pancheros, free Papa John's pizza, free Happy Joe's pizza, and a $5 gift card to the local downtown coffeeshop Cup of Joe. The contest was divided into trivia, a weird version of musical chairs, and then a performance. For my performance, I borrowed John Engel's tenor saxophone and squawked along to a Hank Williams song, never even trying to play a saxophone before tonight. I breaked and stood stoically during the pedal steel and violin solos as I tuned the saxophone.

So I'm playing a show at the Vaudeville Mews two weeks from today. I'm excited because it will be the first time that I perform songs that I've spent time thinking of and writing, as opposed to quick punk or noise or ska whatever songs when I was 16 or 17. My roommate Ryan Garbes is going to play some drum stuff, and then Eric Krieger is going to play some upright bass with me. Then on the 18th, Puffy Taco is going to be playing the Vaudeville Mews again. If anyone decides to show up either of those dates, I would be greatly appreciative, as I always am when friends and such come to support me whenever I perform.
