EXTREMELEY IMPORTANT

Apr 21, 2004 12:42

today at school while sitting in 4th period, the teacher informed the class that 78 out of the 200 students that participated in the blood drive last year tested POSITIVE FOR HIV. this is a staggering like 40%. that is almost HALF. it means that in our classes...which typically contain 30 students...12 of those kids might be infected. it has made me completely distraught. im not angry or scared, because ive got no reason to be. it just shocks me very much. it makes me worried for people. my teacher said it wasnt announced because announcing it would cause a panic. to me, i think a panic might do some good to kids here. people walking around having no idea they have fucking HIV?!!?!?! and spreading it...good god. she said what the school needs to do is pass out condoms. but then you have the conservative parents complaining that, that would just be encouraging sex. and to those people they should be shown the percentages of HIV infected kids that their kid goes to school with. clearly people are having sex, 'encouragement' such as this, if anything, could only be profitable...and increase the safety.

personally ive never taken a stance on the whole sexual protection distribution on school campuses. but, after hearing the figures i did today, i would not question being adamant on this.

sighhhhhhh
this all just is a very close to home kind of thing...and sometimes thats what it takes to make people realize what a large problem it is.
people, i know it feels better not to...but use condoms...know who youre doing stuff with, if you are. numbers like this and diseases such as these are frightening as hell and in this case, fatal.
