I think it'd be good for both of them because they both need someone who isn't the Doctor and isn't Rose, respectively.
That's an interesting point you've made: Mickey and Martha, unrequited by Rose and the Doctor respectively. It's a bit soap-ish, now that I think about it!
This is what worries me about Moffat, because a lot of what I love so much about DW has been the characters.
Yeah, my concern about Moffat is that his characters always seem to have one-track minds. They make Tony DiNozzo look like a monk!
I'm not sure how my attitude will be, but I'm guessing that I may still watch and enjoy "DW", in a sort of normal-fan (lol) fashion. I used to make "NCIS" appointment television - I was there with bells on at 8 pm - but now I just watch if it's on, enjoy it for that hour, and soon forget about it. This may be what "DW" will be for me.
but that doesn't mean that you have the Doctor go and fall in love with another woman for one episode.
Here's the thing for me: I was really, REALLY annoyed about Reinette. And then came the two-episode Joan Redfern, which wasn't Moffat's idea - it was Paul Cornell's - and not only was it just some hormone-driven infatuation, it was a whole life with love and kids and everything. And River Song renewed my annoyance at Moffat. But then came Astrid, then Lady Christina - both RTD characters. And even if he didn't love them, tptb had him kissing Martha (first episode!) and Donna, too - and all those weren't Moffat's episodes. To be honest, I often wonder if tptb thought, "Hey! We've got DAVID TENNANT!" and decided having a hot guy lock lips on screen was a great idea. Maybe all those guys living vicariously through him, lol.
I'm not fond of Moffat's take on relationships; I am so not impressed by the British "Coupling", despite what critics say, and I wouldn't trust him with any 'ship I was rooting for. That said, I don't think he's the only culprit...it seems Tennant's good looks overwhelmed them all! ;-)
I'm interested in seeing Amy Pond. It seems she's right where Billie Piper was when they first cast her - unknown as an actress (though Pond seems to have not been such tabloid fodder). BP turned out fantastic, so I hope Pond does too!
Although I really hope that there isn't any Rose bashing in the new season. I'm hoping that there aren't really any mentions of anyone from the RTD era (except maybe Jack)
Me too. I'd rather take no Rose at all then Rose-bashing. I do think Jack may return. Jack got his intro on a Moffat episode.
Hey, have you've heard of Tennant's NBC show, "Rex is Not Your Lawyer"? I've got mixed feelings. I so SO want to see him on American TV, but I've heard some rumors that the show sucks...that, and well, NBC and its fantastic track record.... I'd rather have him on another, safer network.
I totally agree with what you said about NCIS and I'm thinking that might be how I feel about DW now as well. Although, then I'll have no major fandom, which will be strange. :P But who knows? Maybe we'll love it even more....although I doubt it. :P
And then came the two-episode Joan Redfern
Funny that you mention Joan, because she was the one out of those others that I liked the most. :P And I honestly think it's because he wasn't "The Doctor" but he was John Smith. And I liked Joan....she reminded me of Rose a bit, being resourceful and just the way she handled things....I think the whole thing with EVERYONE kissing the Doctor was almost...a running gag of sorts. Like, he's just so damn irresistible that every woman in the universe feels the need to snog him. I didn't have a huge deal with them because....he didn't fall in love with them. Whereas I resented River Song so much because she implied that the Doctor fell in love with someone else while he was still in his tenth body. That's also why I resented Reinette for the longest time, until I realized that she was sort of awesome in her own way. :P
Did that babbling make any sense? I think the gist of it was that I didn't really have anything against the other kisses (although I wasn't particularly pleased with them...). But honestly, wouldn't you jump on the chance to kiss DT? :P
BP turned out fantastic, so I hope Pond does too!
I hope so too! I really....want to like her. I do. But the costumes are just getting to me. But we'll see.
And that's true about Jack, I was thinking about the fact that he was introduced in a Moffat episode. But then I also think about the fact that "The Doctor Dances" was one of the most blatantly sexual D/R episodes ever....and then there's Madame de Pompadour. :P So I'm still out on that one.
I have heard of Rex! It sounds promising...but I hadn't heard any reviews of it yet. I would LOVE for him to be on American tv, but...yeah. NBC. Right. :P I really hope that it'll work out, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
I did see on set pictures though. Those costume people sure know their stuff..... *drools a little bit* :P
