I loved your review: you voiced things I thought but couldn't pinpoint!

The first word that comes to mind is epic. ... the first time around...I found it almost...underwhelming. ...there were some...silly and not so brilliant things. DIAMONDS!

"Underwhelming" is perfect. When I saw that wimpy little thing, I kept thinking of Sarah Jane's DANGEROUS WARP STAR! that looked like a dollar-store toy. I guess we all know RTD's forte is not, well, subtlety. (I'm still annoyed about that fake regeneration.) Or scariness. (Farting aliens? Really?)

Wilf was arguably the best thing about this episode. ...Donna deserves something good in her life.

Wilf was the best, wasn't he? And I liked the end, where it was about saving the one person: that the Doctor saves the world, but at the very end, it is about one person. RTD did it in "PotW" and here again in "EoT". It's one thing to say that someone dies for the world, but it's very personal when that someone dies for you.

I think Donna's my favorite (most entertaining to watch), and it's so nice to see her happy. I mean, I love the Doctor and Rose, but Donna.... (In "JAG", Webb was my favorite, although as a couple I wanted Harm and Mac.)

although I’m still wondering who the woman was....his mum?

I liked the mystery of it, although I do want to know, too, lol. At one point, when she shows up, and it's the theme with that gorgeous female voice singing. In the episode commentaries, RTD joked was the Time Lady and High Council president Flavia singing across time...so if it isn't the Doctor's mother....

I was disappointed with Mickey/Martha. Because that means that somehow, she and Tom didn’t work out.

I heard it suggested that Tom was killed (offscreen, of course) during the whole "Torchwood" "Children of Earth" storyline. I do feel bad for Martha about Tom, but I'm happy for Mickey. He has no one in this proper universe: not his grandmother, not Rose, not Jackie. (And he lost his grandmother twice!) I always felt so bad that he was so alone; I could see why he clung to Rose. Now he's got Martha - and Martha's whole big family.

And one of the last things he sees in that body is Rose’s lovely smile

Wasn't that ending with Rose just perfect? When the news came out that BP was in the final episode, I was torn between wanting to see her in "DW" again and dreading the wacked-out storylines that would be required to bring her back. Landing in 2005, right before Rose will meet the Doctor, is just perfect. Simple, emotional, and a perfect bookend - coming full circle. (Although one wonders why Rose doesn't at least have deja vu when 9 regenerates into 10!) Just fantastic.

Amy apparently not owning anything in her wardrobe that goes past mid-thigh

Hey, it's Moffat. I'm not surprised. The Sun (so take it with a grain of salt) says Amy Pond's a kissogram or something (like a singing telegram, I guess?), which explains the short, not police-regulation skirt. I have seen a picture of her in a huge sweatshirt and leggings, though I don't know if those are the actress's clothes or the character's. And I'm with you on River Song. Blah.

I like what I've seen of Matt Smith's work, though, and quite frankly Moffat has better stories than RTD does. RTD's forte was always characters' emotional connection. His stories...meh. Despite how many Cybermen and Daleks he'd put in his episodes, RTD's stories were never as terrifying as that single Dalek in Sherman's "Dalek" (that's my every nightmare: I'm always being chased and trying to outrun something) or "Blink" or the nanogenes (who were BENIGN!). And dark corners of libraries still freak me out. (Hey, my college library is ALWAYS that dark...the only light that's around is the one right by the elevator!)

I think I'd be less annoyed with Moffat's romatnic interests for the Doctor now that it's a full regeneration away and Rose's got her own doctor. It really drove me nuts when 10 pined for Rose one minute and go and kissed another the next - ESPECIALLY WITH ROSE WAITING FOR HIM! - but with a whole regeneration removed, it might be easier. I don't know.

P.S. Looking forward to your Kate/Gibbs story!

I guess we all know RTD's forte is not, well, subtlety.

Haha, my friends and I were saying this nearly the entire episode. RTD doesn't know the meaning of the word.

I think Donna is my favorite as well. It's really a toss up between her and Rose...I think I love Rose because I identify with her, but Donna is just so awesome, it's hard not to adore her. :)

Time Lady and High Council president Flavia

Haha, YES. This is who she is to me. :P

I heard it suggested that Tom was killed (offscreen, of course) during the whole "Torchwood" "Children of Earth" storyline.

I had heard this as well, which makes me sad because I really loved Tom, and the idea of Tom/Martha. But it's true, Mickey does need someone in this universe. But....Martha? Just the fact that there was no reason behind it...why couldn't they just be fighting aliens together? As friends? But whatever....I think it'd be good for both of them because they both need someone who isn't the Doctor and isn't Rose, respectively.

Although one wonders why Rose doesn't at least have deja vu when 9 regenerates into 10!

I think that the Doctor was just very careful to sticking to the shadows. I mean, yes, attractive drunk man chatting you up on New Year's should be pretty memorable, but to Rose, that's all that he was. That scene was just so beautiful...the looks on both of their faces were so perfect. <3

RTD's forte was always characters' emotional connection.

This is what worries me about Moffat, because a lot of what I love so much about DW has been the characters. The very few things that I have seen with Matt Smith (namely, anything he's been in with Billie Piper :P) have been very promising, so I'm kinda reserving too much judgment there. But unfortunately, I think that Amy Pond and SM will have to win me over a bit. Plus....River Song! Bleh.

It really drove me nuts when 10 pined for Rose one minute and go and kissed another the next - ESPECIALLY WITH ROSE WAITING FOR HIM!

THIS. I loved that episode a lot but it was SO out of character. I know that SM didn't like Rose very much, but that doesn't mean that you have the Doctor go and fall in love with another woman for one episode. I was so relieved when David announced he was leaving, because I honestly don't think that I could handle seeing Ten chase after another woman, even though Rose has her own Doctor. I honestly believe that Ten was made for Rose and that he would love Rose no matter what and no matter how much time passed. I definitely think it'll be easier to watch Eleven have different love interests.

Although I really hope that there isn't any Rose bashing in the new season. I know it seems paranoid but I really just....love Rose. I'm hoping that there aren't really any mentions of anyone from the RTD era (except maybe Jack) just to make it a clean break. :P

And to finish...the Kate/Gibbs is coming along. Decided to go back and do some editing, we'll see how it turns out. :)

I think it'd be good for both of them because they both need someone who isn't the Doctor and isn't Rose, respectively.

That's an interesting point you've made: Mickey and Martha, unrequited by Rose and the Doctor respectively. It's a bit soap-ish, now that I think about it!

This is what worries me about Moffat, because a lot of what I love so much about DW has been the characters.

Yeah, my concern about Moffat is that his characters always seem to have one-track minds. They make Tony DiNozzo look like a monk!

I'm not sure how my attitude will be, but I'm guessing that I may still watch and enjoy "DW", in a sort of normal-fan (lol) fashion. I used to make "NCIS" appointment television - I was there with bells on at 8 pm - but now I just watch if it's on, enjoy it for that hour, and soon forget about it. This may be what "DW" will be for me.

but that doesn't mean that you have the Doctor go and fall in love with another woman for one episode.

Here's the thing for me: I was really, REALLY annoyed about Reinette. And then came the two-episode Joan Redfern, which wasn't Moffat's idea - it was Paul Cornell's - and not only was it just some hormone-driven infatuation, it was a whole life with love and kids and everything. And River Song renewed my annoyance at Moffat. But then came Astrid, then Lady Christina - both RTD characters. And even if he didn't love them, tptb had him kissing Martha (first episode!) and Donna, too - and all those weren't Moffat's episodes. To be honest, I often wonder if tptb thought, "Hey! We've got DAVID TENNANT!" and decided having a hot guy lock lips on screen was a great idea. Maybe all those guys living vicariously through him, lol.

I'm not fond of Moffat's take on relationships; I am so not impressed by the British "Coupling", despite what critics say, and I wouldn't trust him with any 'ship I was rooting for. That said, I don't think he's the only culprit...it seems Tennant's good looks overwhelmed them all! ;-)

I'm interested in seeing Amy Pond. It seems she's right where Billie Piper was when they first cast her - unknown as an actress (though Pond seems to have not been such tabloid fodder). BP turned out fantastic, so I hope Pond does too!

Although I really hope that there isn't any Rose bashing in the new season. I'm hoping that there aren't really any mentions of anyone from the RTD era (except maybe Jack)

Me too. I'd rather take no Rose at all then Rose-bashing. I do think Jack may return. Jack got his intro on a Moffat episode.

Hey, have you've heard of Tennant's NBC show, "Rex is Not Your Lawyer"? I've got mixed feelings. I so SO want to see him on American TV, but I've heard some rumors that the show sucks...that, and well, NBC and its fantastic track record.... I'd rather have him on another, safer network.

I totally agree with what you said about NCIS and I'm thinking that might be how I feel about DW now as well. Although, then I'll have no major fandom, which will be strange. :P But who knows? Maybe we'll love it even more....although I doubt it. :P

And then came the two-episode Joan Redfern

Funny that you mention Joan, because she was the one out of those others that I liked the most. :P And I honestly think it's because he wasn't "The Doctor" but he was John Smith. And I liked Joan....she reminded me of Rose a bit, being resourceful and just the way she handled things....I think the whole thing with EVERYONE kissing the Doctor was almost...a running gag of sorts. Like, he's just so damn irresistible that every woman in the universe feels the need to snog him. I didn't have a huge deal with them because....he didn't fall in love with them. Whereas I resented River Song so much because she implied that the Doctor fell in love with someone else while he was still in his tenth body. That's also why I resented Reinette for the longest time, until I realized that she was sort of awesome in her own way. :P

Did that babbling make any sense? I think the gist of it was that I didn't really have anything against the other kisses (although I wasn't particularly pleased with them...). But honestly, wouldn't you jump on the chance to kiss DT? :P

BP turned out fantastic, so I hope Pond does too!

I hope so too! I really....want to like her. I do. But the costumes are just getting to me. But we'll see.

And that's true about Jack, I was thinking about the fact that he was introduced in a Moffat episode. But then I also think about the fact that "The Doctor Dances" was one of the most blatantly sexual D/R episodes ever....and then there's Madame de Pompadour. :P So I'm still out on that one.

I have heard of Rex! It sounds promising...but I hadn't heard any reviews of it yet. I would LOVE for him to be on American tv, but...yeah. NBC. Right. :P I really hope that it'll work out, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

I did see on set pictures though. Those costume people sure know their stuff..... *drools a little bit* :P
