Billie Piper summed up perfectly why I love Rose in her autobiography..
Russell doesn't just show women as sweet, emotional, happy-go-lucky. He shows them as needy and manipulative and conniving. Rose was all of those things and also insecure. ... She was brave, she knew what was right and what was wrong, she knew that you had to act for the greater good. That red top was a sign that Rose could do things on her own now. She was empowered. She was in love. She could face difficult moral dilemmas and do the right thing. She could love unconditionally but could also stand on her own two feet. The colour red suggests all of those things. However painful the separation from the Doctor was going to be, she would survive and be better for her time with him.
I just....had to share the Rose love. :P I know that so many people complain that in season 2, Rose was so clingy and needy and I don't deny any of those things. But what people tend to forget is that she's 20 years old and just had to watch the man that she loves/loved burst into flames right before her very eyes. I'd be clingy and needy too. But at the same time, season 2 Rose was awesome, because she could get past that. She made friends with Sarah Jane and she didn't berate the Doctor for leaving her and Mickey alone, she knew that it wasn't all about her.
And yes, the Mickey situation could have been handled a lot better on her part. But the same could be said for Mickey. He was like a poor puppy dog, following Rose around looking for scraps. But again, she's REAL. People do this, they string their (ex?) boyfriends along when they're really in love with someone else. As awful as it may be, it happens in the real world.
I love Rose Tyler because she's imperfect. And Billie's portrayal is just perfect on so many levels. She understands Rose and I think she loves Rose just as much as any fan might. She always played her just right, never over the top or too unbelievable.
And that's the end of my rant. :P
