I know! I'm so glad, SO glad she's alive and not dead, but it stinks for her. I just hope there's a way she could return, despite all the pronouncements that she'll die if she remembers the Doctor and it reactivates her Time Lord half.
I remember just seeing pictures of them and thinking that they didn't really work together
Eccleston doesn't seem to work visually with anyone, poor guy, lol. But what I meant wasn't physically but in dress and style. They gave Nine and Rose a very working class look. Rose even wears sneakers with Velcro.
Ten was basically made for Rose. There was, apparently, a scene that was cut from "Christmas Invasion" where the Doctor explained to Rose how she affected his regeneration
Yeah - I believe DT said that they were planning to say that the Doctor picked up an Estuary accent to match Rose's, like a chick imprinting on a mother hen. (Problem is that when Five became Six, Peri Brown was last voice Five heard and the first Six heard, and when Seven became Eight, Grace Holloway (would you believe, played by the woman who played Josh's mother on "JAG") was there - and both women were American, but the Doctor didn't pick up an American accent.)
What puzzled me is why they would give the Doctor the lower middle class Estuary accent (even if it is spreading) and then dress him up in something as elegant as a fully matched pinstripe suit with matching tie. I can understand the Doctor regenerating himself into pretty to impress Rose, but to then actively choose an outward look that seems to indicate a different social class seems odd.
But it's as you said - Rose stopped with the hoodies and the jeans; she poshed up pretty fast. After Shock has this awesome website image where it looks like one TARDIS, but Series 1 Rose and Series 2 Rose are both coming out of it (with Nine and Ten on the other sides respectively) and the difference is pretty clear - the haircut, the blouse, the shoes. Her hair in one of the "New Earth" promos is positively fantastic - it's pinned up with waves on either side of her face. Rose's outfits are much better with Ten, but it sort of belies the whole Council Estate image tptb were trying to build up.
What really struck me was how strange Rose and Ten looked in the "Christmas Invasion" promos. Ten is already in his suit, but Rose is still wearing Series 1 clothing: jeans, hoodies, her long hair. They looked like a young (dressed up) teacher and a student out on a field trip, and I kept thinking, "No! No! The Doctor and Rose love each other...they're not a parent-child relationship! How icky is that...!"
In later promos their clothing, at least in terms of class, match better (though it's hard to match Rose's Council Estate background). Her image in Series 2 fits better with her Pete's World background - casual business, casual dress-up - and fits Ten's suit better.
To be honest, I wouldn't have minded Ten in that jacket and black jeans. DT looked FANTASTIC in those! But they were most likely trying to draw a clear line between Nine and Ten.
