I was interested in seeing your reaction to "Journey's End" - I have to admit I was surprised at how many people were upset. American TV rarely works out so nicely for couples, even in scifi ("Farscape", anyone?), that I thought people would be jumping for joy. They get DT as the Doctor for more seasons while the Doctor lives out his dream with Rose. If anyone, I felt bad for Donna.
Speaking of Nine and Ten...imho, David is the better Doctor in terms of classic Who; his Doctor is more in that mold of a distant loner who doesn't get entangled romantically. For that reason I enjoy his Doctor, albeit with more emotional detachment. And his goofy outfits - who wears solid blue suits with sneakers and a long BROWN coat?! - fit the classic Doctors' scarves and the celery and the weird question marks on clothing.
But with Rose, I prefer Nine. I feel like tptb spent too much time thinking about Rose and Nine, and it showed that they hadn't anticipated a change of Doctors when they designed the companion. They made a rough Doctor with a working-class accent and made a companion to fit - a Council Estates girl. They even visually matched - his stripped down jeans, jumper, old jacket and boots; her Velcro sneakers, jeans, tee-shirts. They even cut back on the technobabble.
Ten comes along, and he's talkative (with a lot of technical stuff), he's posh from the suit to the glasses. I feel like, in the desire to distinguish him from Nine, they didn't quite look at how it was going to look with Rose.
I still can't figure out how to feel about Rose and the Doctor. The one thing I know for sure is that I'm upset with Brown!Doctor for not saying goodbye. But yeah, you're definitely right, we rarely get happy endings for our couples, so this was pretty darn close. But I hate what happened to Donna. Hate it. :)
I agree that David's Doctor is the more traditional Doctor. lolz and yes, his outfits are goofy. Once I theorized that Rose dressed him, because once she was gone, his clothes got a little silly. :P But I agree that Rose and Nine just fit. They were so perfect for one another, though it might not have been blatantly obvious at first glance. I remember just seeing pictures of them and thinking that they didn't really work together, but after seeing one episode of them together, my opinion quickly changed. :P
Although it's interesting that you don't think that Rose and Ten fit, just because Ten was basically made for Rose. There was, apparently, a scene that was cut from "Christmas Invasion" where the Doctor explained to Rose how she affected his regeneration. According to most fic writers ;), Ten was the way Ten was, because of Rose. He was younger and prettier so they'd fit better as a couple, his accent was like hers, etc...
I always thought it was funny, because Rose changed too, with Ten. She didn't wear her hoodie and jeans as often, and she stayed away from the pink more. She matured while the Doctor got younger, and they met somewhere in the middle. *coughs* Sorry, the romantic coming out a bit.... :P I just love the little things that would happen that showed character development for both of them.
*sighs and wanders off to contemplate Rose's ending some more...* :P
I know! I'm so glad, SO glad she's alive and not dead, but it stinks for her. I just hope there's a way she could return, despite all the pronouncements that she'll die if she remembers the Doctor and it reactivates her Time Lord half.

Eccleston doesn't seem to work visually with anyone, poor guy, lol. But what I meant wasn't physically but in dress and style. They gave Nine and Rose a very working class look. Rose even wears sneakers with Velcro.

Yeah - I believe DT said that they were planning to say that the Doctor picked up an Estuary accent to match Rose's, like a chick imprinting on a mother hen. (Problem is that when Five became Six, Peri Brown was last voice Five heard and the first Six heard, and when Seven became Eight, Grace Holloway (would you believe, played by the woman who played Josh's mother on "JAG") was there - and both women were American, but the Doctor didn't pick up an American accent.)
What puzzled me is why they would give the Doctor the lower middle class Estuary accent (even if it is spreading) and then dress him up in something as elegant as a fully matched pinstripe suit with matching tie. I can understand the Doctor regenerating himself into pretty to impress Rose, but to then actively choose an outward look that seems to indicate a different social class seems odd.
But it's as you said - Rose stopped with the hoodies and the jeans; she poshed up pretty fast. After Shock has this awesome website image where it looks like one TARDIS, but Series 1 Rose and Series 2 Rose are both coming out of it (with Nine and Ten on the other sides respectively) and the difference is pretty clear - the haircut, the blouse, the shoes. Her hair in one of the "New Earth" promos is positively fantastic - it's pinned up with waves on either side of her face. Rose's outfits are much better with Ten, but it sort of belies the whole Council Estate image tptb were trying to build up.
What really struck me was how strange Rose and Ten looked in the "Christmas Invasion" promos. Ten is already in his suit, but Rose is still wearing Series 1 clothing: jeans, hoodies, her long hair. They looked like a young (dressed up) teacher and a student out on a field trip, and I kept thinking, "No! No! The Doctor and Rose love each other...they're not a parent-child relationship! How icky is that...!"
In later promos their clothing, at least in terms of class, match better (though it's hard to match Rose's Council Estate background). Her image in Series 2 fits better with her Pete's World background - casual business, casual dress-up - and fits Ten's suit better.
To be honest, I wouldn't have minded Ten in that jacket and black jeans. DT looked FANTASTIC in those! But they were most likely trying to draw a clear line between Nine and Ten.
