Fed up with FireFox

I'll admit, I've been a huge cheerleader of FireFox since Version 1.0.2 (March 2005) and of Mozilla before that (September 2004). I like the customizability and the add-ons, I liked the security of it. With the latest versions though, it's become more and more of a memory hog, which seems to have peaked with Version 2.0.12 (which I had heard not ( Read more... )

I might give FF3 a try. I don't really use the support anyway, though FF2 was crashing on me with alarming frequency just trying to open. I am enjoying Opera for now though...it was a really easy transition.

How much RAM is it using? I do a lot of video streaming since we don't have any regular TV, and need something that's not a memory hog.

I've got 1.5 gigs of PC2700 DDR 333mhz RAM with a 1.8 ghz AMD Athlon XP 2500+ processor. It's not the fastest RAM out there (especially compared to Richard's laptop with his 2 gigs of 666mhz DDR2 RAM, but my computer actually runs faster than his because I've got XP and he's running Vista). CompUSA built it for me back in 2003, and I'm probably going to eventually upgrade the RAM to the full 3 gigs that it'll hold. My laptop from 2004 is maxed out at 1.2 gigs of RAM.

It's good that FF3 seems to have gotten the memory issue at least back to manageable levels. I've got 10 tabs open in Opera right now and it's using 191 megs. That's also after having gone into and come out of hibernation several times.

Have you encountered any particular quirks of the beta version yet that I should be on the lookout for?
