Arietta stumbled back against the cavern wall with her small eyes wide in horror. Trembling and choking, she lifted her finger and pointed up at the monster that stood before her with a wicked grin. Clumps of salt and tears flopped down her puffy cheeks and crashed into the frigid ground below.
"Your beloved Ion was always a fake." His smoky voice seethed around her ears and scorched the image she had held so dear for so many lonely nights. His green eyes were tainted with a menacing glow as he stepped forward and hissed, "You should know better than to idolize any human, Arietta."
"Liar!" She shrieked and hefted a stone into her little hand to hurl in his direction. Deftly catching the rock, Sync precariously dropped it and continued his advance towards the frightened girl. Curiosity flickered within his mind as he relished in her instinctive fear. Being worthless and expendable had its perks; he was able to live without restraint or morality.
"Why are you so angry?" The Storm Seeker queried and halted just a foot away from where she stood. He tilted his head at an awkward angle and continued his verbal assault on the poor girl, "Is it the fact that your precious Fon Master was replaced with trash like me?"
Arietta collapsed to her knees, burying her face deep within her stuffed companion and bawling like a newborn babe. She curled up into a protective ball and sobbed so hard, her entire body quaked. She refused to acknowledge or entertain the Tempest any longer.
Sync quietly knelt down and pulled her face out of the tangled web of cloth and snot. A mere inch or so from her nose, he sneered, "Be thankful you have a heart to be broken."
