My Two Cents on December Greetings

Dec 14, 2005 11:13

Okay, so I'm so sick of hearing the "Happy Holidays" vs. "Merry Christmas" or "Holiday Tree" vs. "Christmas Tree."

First, let me just say that I celebrate Christmas for it's traditions & for it's religious purposes.

I prefer the use of "Holiday" instead of "Christmas." I'm sick of hearing from some Christians about how they aren't going to compromise their beliefs to be politically correct, because other people celebrate other holidays or maybe they don't celebrate at all.

It isn't about "compromising" yourself or your own beliefs. It's about wishing that someone else have a happy day. It's like saying "Happy Birthday."

It's about respecting other people for their own choices & beliefs. I may be Christian, but I don't believe that any of "us" deserve to throw a fit if Christianity isn't #1 on everyone's priority list or disrespect anyone because they think everyone should be Christian (let's be honest, that's the bottom line for quite a few people).

I've heard "Well, this country was founded on..." That's all fine & good, but what about other things throughout history in this or other countries that didn't pan out so well? Historical foundations aren't necessarily a good argument.
