i must say it was a terrific opportunity. nature conspired to provide us with the perfect context to meet. why else would an octopus suddenly turn up on the shallow waters right in front of our resort?
i had to take a photo so i got my camera and he fetched his. then while i was taking pictures, my dive buddy accidentally cuts off one of the octopus's legs. it crawls over his fingers and he has to pry it off with a slipper.
back on land, we check out our respective pics. he introduces himself and asks how he can get a copy of our shots. do we have a multiply address he asks. and though i don't post my photos on multiply, i should've at least mentioned my flickr page. but i am stubbornly mute, letting my buddy do all the talking.
now if only it had ended there. but no, we continued to watch the still-moving tentacle wriggle across my buddy's slipper. and that's when i chose to speak up. expose my powers of unerring observation and poetic description...
