Asa ga Kita

May 08, 2024 15:28

In the late Tokugawa Shogunate, Asa was born as the second daughter of a wealthy merchant in Kyoto, Japan. Later, in Osaka, Asa entered various business fields like coal mines, banks, life insurance. She also founded the first female university in Japan. (MDL-2015)

This is the first Asadora that has such a long lifespan of the MC. From when she was like 6-7 years old to her old age.

There wasn't boring or slow pace moments, and I liked almost all characters so it is no wonder it is one of the most popular asadora. I usually find Haru super bland, but this was definitely her best role. She was mischievous but also curious and hard-working and gentle, and at the same time, strong. I love her relationship with both her sister Hatsu and her husband Shijiro. Hatsu was another MC for the first dozens of episodes... it was truly much about Asa's life as it was Hatsu's life, and Miyazaki Aoi gave a wonderful performance as a quiet, strong and resilient Hatsu.

Shinjiro is definitely the kindest and most laid-back love interest in any Asadora I've watched so far. He is just a supporter of Asa, but to say "just' isn't fair since in that time, it was very important for a woman to have her husband's back as Asa did, for every right she demanded for women. Luckily Hatsu also leads a better life after the very difficult beginning she faced... it wasn't fair at all and my, how I hate her husband and mother-in-law!

I've never found anything about the bank boring. Maybe I found the coal-mine I bit boring... and Kiyohara Kaya's love story as well... but overall, I enjoyed every episode. I had to take half a star because I didn't like all the deaths... I understand her story takes around 50 years, and of course people die (I can't accept that their mother died so early on, and the girls barely saw her after getting married :( that was very sad). But I think Shinjiro's and Sobei's deaths were unnecessary. Why did the girls have to lose their husbands? :(

And Chiyo **eye-rolling**. The most spoiled daughter. I don't mind her only goal was to be a wife and mother (every person is different) but she was too spoiled and haughty. Not even Koshiba Fuka made me like her.

I was teary-eyed in the last couple of episodes, it was truly sad everything Shinjiro and Asa related :(

**My rating: 8.5/10**

review, asadora
