Kahoko Nemoto (Mitsuki Takahata) is a naive 21-year-old university student. She relies on her mother, Izumi (Hitomi Kuroki), for everything in her life. Her mother wakes her up everyday, picks up her clothes, while Kahoko Nemoto has never done housework or driven a car. One day, Kahoko Nemoto meets a young man who grew up in a completely opposite environment. (asiawiki-2017)
I am sure I wasn't the only one who doubted this dorama in the first episode. Kahoko seemed to be too... simple-minded. Like she had a condition or something. Not only childish, but child-like. How she dresses, how she speaks, how she doesn't know anything. I know most people consider this kind of personality "cute", but I prefer my heroines to be a little more, err, sharp.
But from Ep. 2 and one, I was hooked. I was still a bit overwhelmed with Kahoko's personality (and her ugly sandals... and her stupid way of saying "Kahoko this, Kahoko that") but I found her, well, cute. I liked her chemistry with Hajime-kun, and all times he said something important, and then his outburst of "why are you looking at me like a mother who is disappointed?" or something similar. It was very funny.
Since I like to read Historical Romances, I thought that this dorama could be easily one of them. Changing the period, it was like a Historial Romance. That's why I don't mind that Ep. 2 she is in love, Ep. 3 he rejects her, Ep. 5 he is in love, Ep. 6 they start to date, Ep. 8 they talk about marriage, Ep. 10 they married. It may seem too quick, but it also makes sense. If we imagine this was in Regency time, for example.
Takahata Mitsuki was adorable as Kahoko, I just wish she would drop talking in 3rd person, change her whole closet and comb her hair differently. Besides that, she WAS Kahoko. Her chemistry with Takeuchi Ryoma was very cute.
There is a development in her character, but subtle. This dorama is about her growing up and leaving her family's nest (more like, her mother's nest) and also about the love for the family. More than a romance, it is a family dorama, with some romantic scenes and many funny moments. In that sense, it is quite similar to "Kazoku no Katachi". Even a kind character dies, so the MC has to take care of other people in her place.
It was a lovely dorama, I enjoyed all episodes. I think Ep. 1 and Final episode are the weakest episodes. Ep. 1 because Kahoko doesn't make a good first impression. And Final Episode because many things happen, everything has to end well, like Ito, who has been a bitch for 9 episodes, and in the final, she finally realizes she loves her family, Kahoko and music. Hmmm. (and the girl ho played Ito, btw, is gorgeous. I am sure she will get her first leading role eventually).
**My rating: 9/10**
