Continuing my last post, I found a bunch more wildflowers. I got some of them identified (with the help of my aunt) but many are still a mystery. ( Flowers! )
Now, what makes something a weed? I define a weed strictly as something growing uninvited where I've planted something else which I want to grow instead. When they're all growing wild, how do you tell the difference?
Well. You're sorta on the right track there. Weeds are "invasive" meaning, they will try and choke out the other plants around them. Even out in the wild there are good plants and bad plants. And when the bad ones try to run over the good ones, they are weeds.
Although I have a hard time hating weeds when they are pretty. Just recently I went over to the neighboring valley (which is much greener than ours) and they had fields upon fields of a sort of mustard. It was so pretty just seeing a whole field of yellow flowers. But I could tell it was a huge problem for all the hay farmers over there because the mustard was doing its very best to grow in their crops.
