According to his story, the woman said, "Dad would love to meet you." Maybe an informal father-daughter relationship?

Maybe...? I've always heard Sondheim described as gay; then again, Oscar Wilde was a father.

After some Googling, I found a Guardian interview from 2012 with the following Q&A:

"Q: Do you have any regrets?

A: Yes. I'm sorry I didn't have children."

Sooo.... it was a lovely tall tale, I suppose! Though he did have an actual photo of himself with Sondheim, so perhaps we are all missing a detail here... ?
