Image Place Holders
Are wonderful to activate when you have friends/communities that tend to forget to use LJ cuts or post so many entries with photos that they take up your entire friends list.
To help combat the endless picture crisis - To turn them on, log into your livejournal, but do not go to your blog entries. Instead, choose MANAGE, then INFO, then scroll down and click the checkbox that says - Use image placeholders on your friends page. This will only affect images that display on your friends list, or any custom friends/communities group you might have set up.
Then, when you want to view, click the placeholder and voila.
Sometimes you just don't feel like scrolling through a list of vacation, or constantly posted self-photos of people and such not.
In terms of friends list, I have set up a few groups, some people have a group all to themselves by the volume of posts they make; I'd expect to be on a special group like that as well, as I have tended to update quite a bit lately.
LJ gives you a choice and ability to do many things. I like that.
