So I went to my eye doctor today. I've been noticing this large "floater" in my right eye over the last week or so. After a little research on ye olde Wikipedia I decided to see a doctor, as the appearance of "floaters," along with the perception of flashes of light, can indicate retinal detachment which can lead to blindness. Fun. My retina does not appear to be falling apart, but my doctor did find "a big one" attached to the retinal wall of my right eye, near the connection of the optic nerve, such that whenever my eye moves it bounces up and then settles over fovea, the center of the field of vision. This is really, really, really obnoxious, and while it's apparently harmless, there's no indicated treatment. My doctor says in time I'll *probably* learn to ignore it, which is good, because as a near-sighted individual, I stand to get quite a few more of these as time goes by, especially since I'm noticing them now "as a young man."
As a young man, Grandpa is seriously pissed.
More fun facts about my eyes, recently come to light:
-- My optic disc (the little depression where the optic nerve meets the orbit (the eye proper)) has a cupping ration of 50%, sufficiently off from the 35% characteristic of "most Caucasians." This may be the only characteristically not-white thing I have going for me. Word.
-- My intraocular pressure (IOP) is decidedly lower than average, meaning glaucoma is very unlikely in my near future. W00t.
I know this must be very interesting to you, dear reader. Bear with me, this shit's been on my mind. Beyond my vision woes, I regret to say that I've been doing very little with my time at home besides watching television, eating, and walking around. Well, that's not altogether true. I've been putting a good faith effort into getting back in shape, and dealing with a number of family-oriented things. I should really spend some time with more home-friends before they all go back to school. I've been a bit of a hermit.
