50/50 was rather good. I didn't expect it to get as emotional as it did, but I'm happy that it did. There was a FANTASTIC balance between comedy and emotion, so it never felt like it was taking cancer too seriously or not seriously enough. Everyone's role was very believable, especially the girlfriend who finds herself very selfish and leaves because she was overwhelmed that HE is sick. I can definitely see that being realistic.

Another Earth was definitely something I didn't expect, but still did a fantastic job answering all my questions and just being a great indie sci fi movie in general. It focuses less on the space aspect, and more on the girl, Rhoda, who is trying to go to the other Earth in hopes of a second chance after killing a man's family in a drunk driving accident. The two of them end up having a very odd relationship, and it really takes some odd turns that I didn't see coming.

The Future was by far one of the strangest movies I have ever seen. A couple decides to quit their jobs in anticipation of adopting a cat, because apparently to them, adopting a cat signifies the end of their life, so they act as though everyday is their last. In the process, they make a lot of decent decisions, but go about executing them in what could possibly be the WORST way, all while a personified cat is narrating things in a creepy voice. I am still not really sure how I feel about this movie, but I can definitely tell you it wasn't my favorite movie ever.

Detective Dee and the Phantom Flame is WAY COOLER THAN IT SOUNDS. It's a Chinese movie about a woman who is about to become empress, when everyone around her begins spontaneously combusting. There are magical fighting deer, transfiguration, awesome fighting sequences and a man named Donkey Wang who eats centipedes. Do yourself a favor: Find this movie, and watch it.

Life Above All was awful. What should have been a heart wrenching tale about a 12-year-old girl in Africa dealing with everyone around her being total assholes, getting AIDS, and then being shunned for having a Mom with AIDS (all while dealing with her 12-year-old friend who is selling herself to truckers and getting raped and getting AIDS, as well), I was bored out of my skull. I felt bad for almost no on one, nothing really happened, and I spent the 2 hours chewing on my straw and contemplating if I should go find the Detective Dee theater and watch the rest of that movie again. It should have been, could have been, great....but it wasn't.
